COOLING STATIONS

On behalf of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, I would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all of the agencies, churches, volunteers, businesses, and community partners who have come together to provide cooling shelters for our citizens during this period of extreme heat.

We would like to offer a special thank you to County Administrator Ron Brade, Emergency Services Coordinator Brian Conner, Kim Carson with Tri-County Community Action Agency, and Bonita Nelson for the leadership, coordination, and hard work in helping organize this important community effort. Your dedication and commitment to the citizens of Halifax County are truly appreciated.

We would also like to thank Triangle Fire Department, Oak Level Fire Department, Cluster Springs Fire Department, North Halifax Fire Department, Fork Baptist Church, White Oak Fork Baptist Church and all of the volunteers who opened their doors and volunteered their time to provide safe, welcoming places for our residents, July 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th from 11am-7pm.

First Baptist Church of South Boston will be open to citizens Thursday, July 2nd and Friday July 3rd from 11am-3pm as a cooling station.

If anyone would like to donate snacks, they will be accepted at the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Support Center, 5310 Halifax Rd., Halifax, VA., Thursday, July 2nd from 11am-7pm.

A very special thank you to Hitachi Energy for generously providing bottled water for all the cooling shelter locations. Their continued commitment to supporting the citizens of Halifax County is greatly appreciated and is another example of what makes our community so special.

When temperatures rise, so does the importance of neighbors helping neighbors. Partnerships like these demonstrate the strength of Halifax County. By working together, we are ensuring that everyone has access to a safe, cool place during these dangerously hot days.

We also encourage everyone to check on elderly family members, neighbors, and friends, never leave children unattended in a vehicle, and make sure pets have plenty of fresh water and shade.
Together, we are making a difference. Working together to build a safer community.
