Thanks to the generous funding from the EU International Partnerships Youth Empowerment Fund in partnership with Global Youth Mobilization (GYM), Water for Peace Project is set to hit the ground running.
Recall that last year, we renovated the only school in Chakuwa and built her first-ever toilet facility, putting an end to open defecation within the school environment and providing a more conducive learning space for the children.
However, one major challenge our implementing team faced during the project was access to water needed to carry out the work. Further enquiries revealed that the entire community relies on an abandoned well located deep in the bush — a water source that has been a subject of conflict and dispute for years, while children and families continue to suffer from waterborne diseases.
Today, that story is about to change as we begin the implementation of *Water for Peace Project* in Chakuwa Village, Karu LGA, Nasarawa State, Nigeria.
On Saturday, April 11, 2026, we held a community stakeholders’ engagement session to ensure that community leaders, women, and young people are properly carried along throughout the implementation process. When communities take ownership of projects, sustainability becomes possible.
It was a fruitful engagement as we moved from deliberations to the allocation of land for the project, alongside a technical site survey carried out by our engineers.
In the coming days, we will continue sharing updates on the progress of work and the impact this project will bring upon completion.
We are on a mission to end the cycles of death and thirst in Chakuwa. 💙
