🎭 Experience the magic of , Atlanta’s unique French-language theatre company, as they celebrate American legend Bessie Coleman in their spring production, Queen Bess by Amina S. McIntyre.
🗓️ March 13-29, 2026
📍 7 Stages in Little Five Points

👩🏽‍✈️About Queen Bess:
Bessie Coleman lived in the early 1900s as a mixed-race Black and Native American woman. Due to Jim Crow restrictions and gender discrimination in the U.S., she earned her pilot’s license (the first ever earned by a Black woman or a Native American, and the first international license earned by any American) by teaching herself French and then traveling to France to study. More than 100 years later, her resourcefulness and accomplishments tell a story that continues to challenge and inspire.

🗣️ In English and French with English Supertitles
Appropriate for all ages
À bientôt au théâtre!

🎬 Step into the world of Claude McKay: the Jamaican poet, novelist, and Harlem Renaissance pioneer whose words shook the 1920s… and still echo today.
This powerful documentary by French director Matthieu Verdeil follows McKay across Jamaica, the U.S., England, Russia, France, and Morocco, revealing the radical artist who traveled the world shaping literature, politics, and Black resistance.
Featuring rare archival footage and narration by acclaimed artist Gaël Faye, the film brings McKay’s voice back to life; including his legendary poem If We Must Die, a call for dignity and resistance that resonates with current social justice movements.
The film will be screened in French with English subtitles, and followed by a Q&A discussion with the director Matthieu Verdeil
