Black History Month: Brushes with Icons- A few years back, I had time with three of my heroes/sheroes: Wilma Rudolph, Colin Powell and 1948 Games medalist and business pioneer Herb Douglas. The event was “The Great Ones Sports Awards Show” in DC, 1993. Wilma was one of the honorees along with Ali, Kareem, Ted Williams and Arnold Palmer. President Clinton made remarks.

Had known Ms. Rudolph from my years on the US Olympic Committee board and knew then General Powell from our collaborations on serving children of the military (he was on the Boys & Girls Clubs of America board and I was a senior staffer).

At the after party, each icon asked ME to introduce them to the other …they asked ME! The cherished photo was the memento of that magical evening.

Also, was I ever that young?

Olympic champion Jackie Joyner Kersee, from my speaker's bureau, recently was the keynote speaker at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County (FL) 100 Most Influential Women of Broward event. Lots of great press resulted for the event. What a classy crowd to work with down there!
