Sharing again because we’re getting a lot of really good questions. And we know the majority of passings don’t happen with malicious intent - it’s an unawareness of the law. So here’s a great, comprehensive info graphic.
If you’re driving in the same direction as the school bus - always stop. Even if there’s a turning lane to the right (or left) as shown, the bus is not moving over for drivers to pass 😉
If you’re traveling in the opposite direction and there is a physical barrier (grass, concrete, unpaved space between lanes) you do not need to stop. Children should never be crossing a physical barrier to get to or from the bus, so you’re safe to simply proceed with caution and heightened awareness that children are nearby (and unpredictable at best).
All others - you must 🛑
It’s a serious violation - drivers don’t want to pay those fines (listed below) or risk harm for children.
School buses are mobile school zones, and at the very least, drivers need to be hyper aware when sharing the road with children. Please reach out if there’s any confusion! We really appreciate the dialogue, thanks friends!
