Teaching in the Urban South

Teaching in the Urban South Teaching in the Urban South (TITUS) TITUS was founded on the campus of Emory University in 2011.

Its original aims were to connect educational leaders across public schools in metro-Atlanta with local scholars and students during summer learning opportunities and year-round events. We hoped to create collaborative spaces for school-based inquiry where participants could engage in a dialogue and exchange of best practices.

Now, TITUS does similar events and coordinates advocacy efforts acros

s the urban Southeast with offices in Alabama, North Carolina, and Georgia. Seeking always to expand the network between various stakeholder groups committed to public education, we host Town Hall meetings, offer consulting work, and conduct workshops and seminars around issues related to urban education.

TITUS is honored to have been mentioned in Dr. Siddle Walker’s AERA lecture last evening. Were you there?

Meet TITUS Executive Board Member:

Miyoshi Juergensen is an Assistant Professor of Teacher Leadership at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA. Her research focuses on the intellectual histories of African American educators and the contemporary impact of their legacy on the schooling of Black children. As a teacher educator, she uses social-justice frameworks to collaborate with teachers and school-level administrators on ways to improve - and make more inclusive as well as more meaningful - curriculum, instruction, and leadership. In addition, she also has over 15 years of experience in instructional technology and works alongside a collective of Black women instructional technology specialists to support families with virtual learning.
