Who's ready for some good news? Congratulations are in order for Shepherd Smash rugby athletes Scott Stokes, Zac Bradley and Talbot Kennedy for being invited to the United States Wheelchair Rugby Association low-point wheelchair rugby team tryouts. This team will compete at the World Games hosted in Birmingham, Alabama this summer.

Our co-founder, Alana Shepherd, turned 90 last week, and at Shepherd Center, we like to celebrate birthdays all month long! Did you know that Alana championed bringing the International Paralympic Games to Atlanta in 1996? She changed Olympic/Paralympic history when her efforts led the International Olympic Committee to decree that all cities seeking to be the site of future Olympic Games must include plans and proposed financing for the Paralympics, as well access to the same sites and facilities. Though the Paralympics were postponed for 2020, we can’t wait to celebrate when they return!

Congratulations Talbot!

Congratulations Talbot!

Even though USQRA nationals were cancelled this year, they still honored athletes with awards, including our own Talbot Kennedy! He was awarded D2 Mid Pointer Athlete of the Year. As a 1.5, Talbot combines speed and skill to be an incredible weapon offensively and defensively for the Shepherd Smash quad rugby team. Congrats, Talbot!
