It’s , and this week we’re heading back to the Windy City. 🌆

Empire’s first competition in Chicago happened in 2021, and the city has been home to some unforgettable moments ever since. In 2023, we even made Empire history by hosting two separate competitions in Chicago in the same season.

Empire first competed in Philly in 2024 and returned again last season. In just two years, the City of Brotherly Love has become a memorable chapter in the Empire story.

Competition weekend would not be possible without the volunteer team in Blue Shirts.

From the friendly faces greeting teams at check-in, to organizing courtrooms, supporting trials, and making sure everyone gets where they need to be on time, Blue Shirts help bring the entire Empire experience to life.

This fall, we are looking for college students, former competitors, and other members of the Empire community who want to make an impact—and have a lot of fun doing it.

We are excited to share that the 2026 Empire Mock Trial case file has officially been released to our competing teams!

This year's criminal case, State v. Gregory, challenges students to examine a high-profile kidnapping investigation set against the backdrop of a celebrity awards show. As teams work through conflicting witness accounts, digital evidence, and questions of motive and credibility, they'll be tasked with building compelling cases for both the prosecution and the defense.

One year ago, Lakeland Christian arrived at Empire Chicago when nearly every team member was new to competitive mock trial.

They were rebuilding and looking for the kind of experience that could show them what was possible.

They found it at Empire Chicago.

They faced one of the strongest fields in the country, met teams from around the world, and learned what national-level preparation really looks like.

This spring, they became the 2026 National High School Mock Trial Champions.

Their story is what On The Record is all about: highlighting what makes the Empire experience matter long after the closing ceremony.

60 teams. 600 students. One incredible Sapphire League competition. 💎⚖️

Congratulations to all of the students who competed this spring — and to our Top 10 teams for their outstanding performances throughout the competition.

Every team this weekend blew us away. Your preparation, teamwork, and advocacy were incredible to watch, and you should all be proud of what you accomplished.

Thank you to our coaches, judges, volunteers, and supporters for making this competition possible. Your dedication continues to create amazing opportunities for students across the world!

There is so much to celebrate (hello, Spring Leagues) but first, congratulations to all our friends who crushed it at Nationals! 🎉👏

A very big congratulations to Lakeland Christian School .mocktrial on their first National Champion title! & the first for Florida since 1992!

Lakeland has been competing with Empire for years — from Baltimore to the World Championship in Chicago just this past November! Their victory is no surprise to us!

We’d like to give a special shout-out to all of Lakelands coaches and recognize the dedication of every coach that gives so much time to our favorite activity. Thank you for all you do! 👨‍⚖️
