Another exciting but unfortunately little known piece of Summerhill history will be told tomorrow afternoon. You may have heard the story of the Atlanta Washerwomen Strike of 1881, but did you know the very first meeting to organize this important labor justice movement started right here in Summerhill? Want to learn the story and experience an artistic telling of the bravery, tenacity, and sheer gumption of the incredible women who created a wave of justice across the country? Of course you do!

There will be three repeat showings Sunday, October 5th followed by a Q&A Learn more from the flyer below, sign up for your free ticket, share with friends, and prepare to be inspired! (I had the chance to speak by phone with the artist/author/producer, Ada Pinkston, this week and she is awesome! Tomorrow’s performances are basically a workshop to inform the final production to be performed in May 2027.) Share this link!

Hi Neighbors - for those who are interested in becoming an ONS Board Member but are wondering about the time commitment:

We have compiled the average amount of time board members currently invest, inclusive of board and community meetings, for the roles that are up for election. Please note that events can make this variable:

President: 40-100 hours/month
VP: 20 hours/month
Secretary: 12-16 hours/month
Treasurer: 5-6 hours/month
Transportation: 10-12 hours/month
Zoning: 4-8 hours/month

If you're interested in becoming a board member and would like to learn more or discuss what position(s) might be a good fit for you, please reach out to [email protected]. We'd love to talk to you about it!

Requirements for eligibility:
-Record of attendance at 5 of our past 12 meetings at the time of November elections
-Live in Summerhill (own or rent)
-18+

What: Dog-centered activities, local vendors, free pet portraits by Diego the Pet Photographer, Live DJ, Lifeline dog adoptions 🐕❤

Hi Neighbors - Kaiser Permanente's annual Run Walk Roll 5k will be held in Summerhill this Thursday, September 24.

Info from the event organizers below:

Venue Location: Parking lot behind Publix

Neighborhood Comms: Informative yard signs will go up in the neighborhood in the week before event (will be retrieved by organizers after event)

Road closures on: Crumley, Hank Aaron and Fraser. Pollard will serve as the alternate route.

Access to Publix and 565 Hank Apartments on Hank Aaron will not be restricted from south

Expect runners on course from approx. 7pm-8:30pm
