Atlanta Council on International Relations

Atlanta Council on International Relations ACIR is a non-profit, non-partisan educational organization that promotes understanding of international affairs through the free exchange of ideas.

ACIR is dedicated to providing its members and the community with a better understanding of the complex issues that confront the United States and the global community in the fields of international and security affairs, global economics and policy, and relations between and among nations and non-state actors in the international arena. It seeks to be a forum for high-level discussion and learning

between those individuals in metro Atlanta who desire to interact with others with similar interests and with world-class experts. Through ACIR programs, we attract additional members who have a keen interest in thoughtful discussion of international affairs to broaden our forum. This will give rise to opportunities for those speakers with commanding knowledge of international events to inform our members further and to continue ACIR's growth and its influence in the Atlanta metropolitan area and beyond.

Are Economic Sanctions Still Effective?

American economic sanctions have been a major component of American Foreign Policy for decades. They have reflected not only its economic power, but also its moral force, when wielded to isolate despotic regimes. In a changing international universe, do America’s adversaries still fear the historic power of American sanctions?

ACIR, together with Georgia Tech Center for International Business Education and Research, is honored to host Irfan Vaid, who will speak on the topic "Are Economic Sanctions Still Effective?; National Security and the Dollar's Future as a Global Reserve Currency."
