There are no words big enough for a loss like this.

Rowan Rieve was sweet, smart, funny, and kind; the kind of presence that made every room a little better just by being in it. He touched more lives than he probably ever knew.

Rowan was part of our IFF family, and today we grieve alongside those who loved him most.

We carry him with us, in every research project we fund, every family we walk alongside, and every step we take toward a cure. This is why we fight. This is who we fight for.

Since 2014, the IFF Band has taken the stage at IFF events to help raise awareness and funds for pediatric brain tumor research. These aren't professional musicians. They're kids who decided that raising awareness and funds for pediatric brain tumor research mattered enough to pick up a guitar, a mic, and a drumstick and show up.

That's the heart of Ian's Friends Foundation; it's not just doctors and donors. It's a whole community, including teenagers who could be doing anything else with their time, choosing to use their talent for kids fighting brain tumors.

In 2005, we heard the words that changed our family forever: "We found something." Our son Ian had an inoperable tumor in his brainstem. In our search for answers, we discovered that very little funding was being allocated to research these specific pediatric brain tumors. So we started Ian's Friends Foundation to fill that void for the thousands of children who suffer from this disease.

Every other September, something remarkable happens.

Leading pediatric brain tumor researchers from across the country gather at the WhatIFF Symposium, not to compete, but to collaborate. They share what's working, challenge each other's thinking, and leave with ideas that wouldn't exist if they'd stayed in their own labs.
