🇺🇸🦅🎨 WHERE should we hang our new mural? We're on the hunt for the ✨perfect✨ 12'x7' piece of downtown wall real estate to install our new America 250 patriotic community mural!

The Atlanta community is encouraged to participate in a collaborative art project by attending the Community Mural Tile-Painting Party June 15th. The assembled Mural Mosaic will be unveiled publicly for the first time on June 27th during the Atlanta Community Fireworks Celebration at the Sportsplex!

Below are photos of blank walls that *might* be the right size to ultimately place the mural (of course with private property owner agreement), but we really want to hear from you! What's the perfect location in your opinion? Let us know what you think by explaining or dropping a pic or map dot in the comments! 👇🏼

You're invited to be a part of Atlanta's next downtown mural ... A collaborative Mural Mosaic painted one tile at a time by the Community!

A patriotic design in honor of 🇺🇸America 250🇺🇸 ... the final assembled Mural Mosaic will be Unveiled for the first time in public at the Atlanta Community Fireworks Celebration on June 27!

Artists of all ages and experience levels are welcome.

Would any local groups like to get plugged in for the Atlanta Community Fireworks Show on Saturday, June 27th? The location for setup would be the City of Atlanta Sportsplex (baseball / softball complex) and the timeline would be approximately 6:30pm-9:30pm.

Please note, we are NOT looking for vendors, but volunteer groups. It would be nice to have volunteer groups for things like:
🇺🇸 Free water tent
(COVERED by April and Martina | and tentative 2nd group)
🇺🇸 Face painting / tattoo station
(COVERED by The Burrow 🐰🎭)
🇺🇸 Patriotic craft station (I could even provide the craft!)
(COVERED by Cornerstone Church)
🇺🇸 Co****le area
🇺🇸 Music stations (family friendly only)
🇺🇸 Glow toy / glow stick giveaway
(COVERED by tentative group(s) )
🇺🇸 First aid tent
🇺🇸 Other?

Additional happenings will be the Sportsplex Concession Stand rolling, and a big UNVEILING of a community art project (keep an eye out for an event page related to the art project).

🚨🚧👷🏼‍♀️ ANNOUNCEMENT
👉🏼Regarding the Atlanta City Park on Louise Street: Construction of a new walking path at the City Park is now in progress. You will notice dirt work and concrete work for the next several weeks. Please avoid entering any and all active construction areas and keep all children and pets a safe distance away from construction areas at all times. The project will be constructed in phases.

A recreational trail grant was awarded from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for 75% cost reimbursement (on projects totalling up to $300,000.00) for this project.

This morning is the Memorial Ceremony in downtown Atlanta.

J.E. Manning American Legion Post 258 is hosting their Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 25, at 10AM. The ceremony will be held at Veterans Plaza in downtown Atlanta (106 E Main St). All are encouraged to attend as they honor our fallen service men and women.

Today, our Executive Director, Miranda Johnson, had the opportunity to speak in Bossier City, LA as a panelist regarding the importance of "Third Places" in the context of community and economic development.

If home is your First Place, and Work/School is your Second Place, Third Place is another location where people can easily gather to make social connections and find a sense of belonging within their community. A place where "everybody knows your name!" Or where you're at least a familiar face to other regulars 🫶🏻

Miranda was able to share some good Third Place examples from Atlanta, such as: The Sweet Spot Atlanta and the Atlanta, TX Public Library.

Additional Third Places might be parks, cafes, gyms or sport courts, walking trails, churches or corner stores- basically any place where people of all kinds can go to soak up the benefits of a place that provides community connection outside of their home or work.
