We would like to congratulate Dr. Charles Isbell Jr. for his NSBE Golden Torch Award for Lifetime Achievement in Academia.

Dr. Isbell has had a long, groundbreaking career in top-ranking institutions, from earning his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at Georgia Tech; to receiving his Ph.D. in artificial intelligence from the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology. He worked as a research scientist at AT&T Laboratories. Then he returned to Georgia Tech, where he became a Computer Science professor and Dean of the College of Computing.

In August of 2023, Dr. Isbell became the provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Throughout his career, Dr. Isbell’s work has shaken the status quo and served as an advocate and change agent for increasing access and diversity in U.S. colleges and universities. Suffice it to say, Dr. Isbell has moved NSBE’s mission forward significantly, advancing and exemplifying academic excellence, professional success, and positive impact on the community.

Of course your favorite engineers know how to throw down and have a good time! We hosted the Welcome to Atlanta Party sponsored by Gresham Smith, in collaboration with, , , and . This was one of several amazing events during NSBE50.
Members attended sessions, presented engaging content, and created long-lasting connections. We look forward to seeing all of the new opportunities that grow from the seeds planted at this year’s conference.

We were proud to represent our city at the conference that took place in Atlanta, Georgia this year. The conference brought together leading experts, researchers, and professionals from various engineering disciplines to discuss knowledge sharing, collaboration, and inspiration within the engineering community. Several of our members attended sessions, presented engaging content, and created long-lasting connections with other members. We received three major awards at the NSBE Conference: Region III Professional Development Program of the Year, Region III Collegiate Initiative of the Year, and Region III Chapter of the Year! We would like to thank all of our fellow board members for making this possible! Without their amazing contributions, we would not have been able to show how dedicated we are to the NSBE mission. The NSBE Atlanta Professionals always show up and show out! We are dedicated and committed to community service, volunteering, and educating the younger generation! Thank you everyone for your support. We are thankful and grateful to be recognized for our actions and impact within our community.

Our very own Public Relations Chair, Herve, had the opportunity to speak about coding music at SXSW! Also, Janeen Uzzell, CEO of NSBE, was a speaker at the conference and heard Herve speak! She is so excited that the NSBE Conference will be happening in Atlanta this week and she is so ecstatic for Herve’s speaking session at the conference and other events that are going to happen at the conference. She is so proud of the NSBE Chapters in Atlanta and look forward to seeing their hard work and their energy towards the organization.

Our General Body Meeting last week was amazing!

We had speakers from AstraZeneca and Delta Air Lines.

We also highlighted Women Engineers in honor of International Women’s Month.

We are so pumped and ready for the upcoming NSBE National Convention!

There will be so many opportunities to network with amazing people, participate in insightful workshops, talk to awesome companies, AND MORE!!!!
