📢 Message from Our President, Erin Mullins!

The recent inclusion of the Guardant Shield blood test as a colore**al cancer screening option is an important step toward expanding access and increasing participation in screening.

As we discuss this advancement, it's important to understand the difference between screening methods. Blood-based tests may help detect colore**al cancer, while colonoscopy can help prevent colore**al cancer by finding and removing precancerous polyps before they become cancer.

More screening options are valuable. Clear patient education remains essential.

Some of our members gathered last weekend for the The American Society of Colon and Re**al Surgeons - ASCRS Annual Scientific Meeting 2026 in Tampa at our 4th annual Society of Black Colore**al Surgeons meet-up — and what a beautiful evening it was! 💙

There is something incredibly special about being in a room filled with brilliant Black colore**al surgeons, trainees, mentors, students, and industry partners all committed to advancing this field together.

The evening was full of laughter, networking, mentorship, collaboration, and meaningful conversations surrounding innovation, patient care, and the future of colore**al surgery and pelvic health.

A huge thank you to our industry partners for helping make this event possible and for continuing to support education, mentorship, and advancement within our specialty.

Also, a special shoutout to our President, Dr. Erin Mullins, who presented at the ASCRS Annual Scientific Meeting 2026. It was incredible to learn from her and watch her share her expertise on such a respected stage!
