Fellow veterans and spouses … DON'T TELL EVERYONE YOUR BUSINESS!
Don't tell them about your disabled spouse sitting around the house not working, going on vacation to see family, or sleeping during the day and up at night, playing video games etc. It is no one else's business!
If there are major problems in your marriage or your spouse goes to the VA for counseling or an outsider for marriage counseling or do a health intervention with doctors. Get the help you need but is no one else's business!
Everybody is not your friend. Everyone doesn't care that you get a disability check, they don't care about your rating percentages, every alignment that you have. They don't care that you go to college for free, free healthcare, free medications. The list goes on because you rightfully earned it! It is no one else's business!
Many people just have a job to HATE. As hard as you fight to get something you deserve people doubt and do their best to take it away. We worked so hard to get our ratings honestly. It is no one else's business!
People want to play psychiatrist and or physical doctor. Their mentality is "if I can do it why can't you?" It is no one else's business!
"You got PTSD and Depression....well you look fine to me!" It is no one else's business!
Friends and coworkers should not know the breakdown of your disability rating and level of benefits you receive. It is no one else's business!
People are looking for justifications to report you to the VA and SSA all on assumptions, opinions and gossip. It is no one else's business!
I feel safe to give and receive advice on these Facebook Veteran forms. However, once I log off Facebook, I keep it between my spouse and a few close friends. It is no one else's business!
If you get a large retroactive check, please, please, please understand this. You may find new "friends" and family popping up out of nowhere. It is no one else's business!
Get the help you need, whether it is physical health or mental health.
Your priorities are your family, your health and your quality of life!
I'm just saying don't trust everyone with your business!
Your privacy as far as disabilities is protected via the ADA (American's with Disabilities Act). You are not required to tell anyone you have a disability, what it is, how much you get in money or benefits. This is for work, friends, family doctors, etc. If you need accommodations for work you can tell them what you need to, but details are up to you.
