According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early, and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams, and scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms.

The Metro - Atlanta Alumni and Professional Chapter promotes a sense of brotherhood within, while bringing about positive change to our various different communities. We have been affiliated, volunteered and participated with several organizations.

World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health.

On April 3, MAAPC had the opportunity to work with Hands on Atlanta as we prepared meal boxes for families as we face the COVID-19 pandemic. — at Hands on Atlanta.

October 19 is GLAAD Spirit Day, a means of speaking out against LGBTQ bullying and standing with LGBTQ youth, who disproportionately face bullying and harassment because of their identities. Pledging to "go purple" on Spirit Day is a way for everyone -- forward-thinking companies, global leaders, respected celebrities, neighbors, parents, classmates, and friends -- to visibly show solidarity with LGBTQ youth and to take part in the largest, most visible anti-bullying campaign in the world.

Observed annually since 2010, individuals, schools, organizations, corporations, and public figures wear purple, which symbolizes 'spirit' on the rainbow flag. It's a way to show support for LGBTQ youth and take a stand against bullying. Following a string of high-profile su***de deaths of gay teens in 2010, GLAAD worked to involve millions of teachers, workplaces, celebrities, media outlets and students in going purple on social media or wearing purple, a color that symbolizes spirit on the rainbow flag.

Spirit Day now occurs every year on the third Thursday in October, during National Bullying Prevention Month, and has become the most visible day of support for LGBTQ youth.
