We are grateful to receive these Black Girl Vitamins through donation as part of our mutual aid efforts at Rooted in Wisdom. Every donation helps us continue showing up for our community with tangible resources, dignity, and care.

From menstrual and incontinence products to baby essentials, postpartum supplies, condoms, emergency contraception, and abortion pills, our mutual aid initiative supports people across the full spectrum of reproductive and family wellness.

Because access to care should never depend on what someone can afford. Community care means meeting people where they are, without judgement, shame, or barriers.

This is what putting our values into action looks like. This is mutual aid. This is community care. 🌿

Our Village is being called in. 🤎🧺

We’re preparing for Rooted in Wisdom’s Village Nesting Gathering at Spelman College, and we’re putting together a table of diapers and baby essentials for the family we’re celebrating.

We have a few donations already, but we still need diapers, wipes and other newborn essentials to help us fill the table.

If you’d like to contribute, we’ve created an Amazon Registry with the supplies we need most. Orders placed now can arrive this week and make it to us in time for the gathering.

Today marks the beginning of Black Philanthropy Month, and we’re honoured that Rooted in Wisdom has been selected to participate through Givebutter.

Throughout August, every eligible donation of $10 or more made to our Blooming Distribution Days campaign on Givebutter will receive an additional 5% match from Givebutter’s $20,000 Black Philanthropy Month matching fund. That means your generosity stretches even further to help women, children, and families access essential care and supplies.

Blooming Distribution Days provide menstrual products, maternal and baby essentials, hygiene supplies, wellness resources, and practical support for our community. Every contribution helps us place dignity, health, and hope directly into someone’s hands.

We’re heading to the Black Girl Book Fair on July 11th, and we’d love for you to join us!

Before the fair, we’ll gather at a Black owned bookstore and arrive by 10:30 AM, then spend the day celebrating Black authors, Black stories, literacy, culture, and community together.

Whether you’re a passionate reader, a collector of books, an aspiring writer, or simply looking for a meaningful way to connect with others, this outing is for you.

There is something powerful about gathering around stories that reflect our experiences, our history, and our future.

Black Maternal Health Week, held each year from April 11 to 17, calls you to face the truth and act with intention.

Every two minutes, a woman dies from pregnancy or childbirth. Black women carry a far heavier burden. In the United States, Black women are about three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. This is a systems failure, not a personal one.

You cannot claim to support Black maternal health while excluding the very people who have sustained it for generations.

Midwives save lives. That includes nurse midwives, certified professional midwives, and traditional midwives. Especially traditional midwives. These are the birth keepers who hold ancestral knowledge, who serve communities often ignored by formal systems, who provide care that is continuous, culturally grounded, and deeply relational.

When you limit midwifery to only what is recognised by institutions, you narrow access. You strip families of choice. You erase practices that have kept Black and Indigenous communities alive long before modern medicine entered the room.

If you want safer births, you invest in all pathways of midwifery care. You protect traditional midwives. You fund their work. You create systems that allow them to practise freely and safely alongside other providers.

At Rooted in Wisdom, this is what we stand on. We train birth workers. We support families. We build community care that does not begin and end in a hospital room.

Black maternal health is about access. It is about respect. It is about restoring what has always worked.

Support the work. Fund the care. Protect the midwives.
