Rotary Club of Buckhead

Rotary Club of Buckhead The Rotary Club of Buckhead meets 12:15 on Mondays.

08/17/2026

In 1951, Buckhead Rotary members sat down to a weekly lunch of Alaskan bear meat for $1.25 a plate. 🎧

The restaurant owner lost money on every single serving. He did it on purpose, and the reason why is one of the smarter things in this story.

Our special 75th anniversary podcast episode explores the full history of the club, from 23 charter members and an unrepeatable lunch menu to one of the most strategic philanthropic engines in the Southeast.

Along the way: selling Christmas trees on the side of a highway to fund a high school driver's ed program, and the model running today, where the club picks one Atlanta nonprofit, commits three years, and puts members to work in person for all of it.

Thirsty Thursday is back! Next week we're gathering at the home of Betsy Barge, 5:30–7:30 PM. 🍻

For anyone outside the club wondering what this has to do with Rotary: fellowship is the foundation everything else is built on. Rotary is a service organization, but the service works because the relationships are real. When you've shared a meal, a laugh, and a few stories on someone's back porch, you show up differently for the projects that matter β€” the scholarships, the grants, the volunteer days, the causes our members care about. Fellowship isn't the reward for the work. It's what makes the work possible.

That's the part people don't always see from the outside. Buckhead Rotary is 75 years of neighbors who genuinely like each other and decided to do something useful together.

Here's a look at our last gathering. Guests are always welcome, just reach out to a Buckhead Rotarian you know and have them bring you along. If you don't know one yet, send us a message and we'll connect you.

🌎✈️ She’s finally here! Yesterday, our Buckhead Rotary Club family headed to the airport to give a massive Georgia welcome to Neslihan Atici, our newest scholar arriving all the way from Turkey! πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡·βœ¨

For those unfamiliar with the Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP), it is an incredible initiative founded right here in Georgia back in 1946. Every year, Rotary clubs across the state sponsor international college students for a year of study, leadership building, and cultural immersion. It’s a powerful way to bridge nations and promote world peace through genuine personal connection.

Our members are so excited to get to know Neslihan over the next year! We'll be inviting her along for fun local activities, weekend family dinners, and showing her the very best of Atlanta and the deep hospitality of Buckhead. Next stop: GRSP Conclave in Savannah!

The question companies used to ask Georgia: how much will you pay us per job?

The question they ask now: where will we find the talent?

Chancellor Sonny Perdue on why higher education is Georgia's real economic development strategy.

Veterinarian. Governor. U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. Now Chancellor of the University System of Georgia.

Sonny Perdue has had some pretty cool jobs, as he put it. But he told Buckhead Rotary this one may be the most impactful of them all.

Grateful he spent time with us this week.

75 years of service, and somewhere in there the strategy changed. Buckhead Rotary once had 60 committees pulling in 60 directions. Alec's fix, during his two years as president: pick a small number of signature projects, commit for three years, and go all in.

Or as he puts it, you're better off filling one plane full of gas than sending a fleet across the Atlantic on a quarter tank.

Because very little gets done by one person.

Just over a month into our Horizons partnership, and we're only getting warmed up. 🧑

Miriam breaks down what's on deck this year: reading with the kids, Trunk or Treat, swim lessons, and a Christmas party. Poolside update from a morning we spent cheering on some very brave new swimmers.

This is what showing up looks like. More to come.

This Monday at Buckhead Rotary: Chancellor Sonny Perdue.

Few Georgians have served the state in more ways. Sonny Perdue was Georgia's 81st Governor, went on to serve as U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, and today leads the University System of Georgia as Chancellor β€” a role he'll hold until the Board of Regents names his successor.

We're honored to have him at the podium.

Guests are always welcome. Bring a friend, a colleague, or anyone curious about what Rotary's about.

Hollywood writes it, Georgia films it. 🎬

As we pull back the curtain on how the film industry actually works today: scripts are still being written in Hollywood, but more and more productions are packing up and heading straight to Georgia soundstages to bring those stories to life.

Lee Cuthbert of the Georgia Film Office spotlighted Tyler Perry Studios and its arsenal of stages, a true beacon for the television and film industry here in the Southeast. It was fascinating to learn just how much impact the studio has had on Georgia's economy. To this day, the campus's growth continues to bring a steady stream of television production and administrative jobs into the city of Atlanta. 🀝

Lights, camera, Action! This week Buckhead Rotary welcomed Lee Cuthbert, Director of Operations for the Georgia Film Office. We were amazed to hear how our home state of Georgia became one of the busiest production hubs in the country. From sprawling new studio campuses to the thousands of local jobs feeding the industry, Lee laid out just how much film production vitalizes Georgia's economy. It's not just movie magic, it's a full-blown workforce engine, and it's happening right in our backyard!
