Hadassah Greater Atlanta

Hadassah Greater Atlanta Hadassah Greater Atlanta is a multi-generational volunteer membership chapter of Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America.

Hadassah Greater Atlanta (HGA), the metro Atlanta chapter of Hadassah, has existed for 106 years! Founded in 1916, the Hadassah Greater Atlanta chapter is comprised of 3,617 members and associates (98% are life members) who come together to raise funds in support of Hadassah’s projects in Israel and the United States; to promote issues of women’s health and family well-being; to study; to educate;

and to have fun. Our members are actively involved in groups, which are organized primarily around location, age, day or evening meeting preference, and profession (health professionals). At the Chapter level, however, we sponsor a number of community-wide projects, programs, and study groups designed to enrich your body, your mind, your heart and your soul. HADASSAH GREATER ATLANTA 35TH CHESED STUDENT AWARDS

The 35th annual Hadassah Greater Atlanta (HGA) Chesed (loving kindness) Student Awards took place on May 3 at Congregation Or Hadash in Sandy Springs. HGA and JTeen honored twenty-one of the best and brightest young leaders representing synagogues, Jewish day schools and organizations in the Greater Atlanta community.

Eighth through twelfth graders are eligible for the award. Each organization chooses its own recipient based on criteria that are paramount to Hadassah and its members: concern for Jews, Jewish culture and heritage; concern for Israel; concern for fellow human beings in manner and deed (menschlichkeit); and good academic standing.

Phyllis M. Cohen, Linda Weinroth, and Liz Goldstein of Hadassah Greater Atlanta chaired the event in partnership with Leah Stinson, Director, JTeen/JCamping -Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta. This is the seventh year collaborating in recognizing the inspiring and impressive actions, activities, and achievements of these teens.

HADASSAH GREATER ATLANTA CHOCOLATE SEDER

Hadassah Greater Atlanta held its second annual Chocolate Seder on Sunday, March 29, in Alpharetta. The Seder followed the traditional Haggadah structure but used chocolate items to tell the Exodus story. For example, dark chocolate or bittersweet chocolate chips were used for the bitter herbs. Charoset was a mixture of chocolate fudge with nuts and marshmallows. The 4 cups were not of wine but chocolate milk. And the egg was a foil covered chocolate egg mostly seen at Easter time.
