Mr. Yves Desanges is the multi- talented musician and director of the women's musical group at St. Barnabas church in Lotorè. Due to crushing high gas prices in Haiti, he has recently walked twice down to Anse a Galets to make preparations for the feast of St Barnabas June 11. Dedication, determination and talent. He is pictured here (yellow shirt) during this trip with the women's choir of St. Francis.

Global fuel shortages cripple vulnerable countries like Haiti. Diesel is currently 1000 gourdes/gallon ($7.69USD), up from 740 gourdes last month. Fuel on la Gonâve is sourced from what's available on the Haitian mainland. It's placed in plastic barrels and sailed quite unsecurely to the island of la Gonâve. Then it's divided for resale in a variety of containers (shown here in front of St. Francis campus in Anse a Galets).

Dr. Lazar and his team travelled to Gros Mangles this week to hold a mobile clinic at St. Esprit. They had to motorcycle through washed out dirt roads to get to town. The medical team treated a lot of patients this day, many of whom were mothers or young children. They even delivered a baby! Everyone was grateful that Dr. Lazar and Nurse Soisilia were there to provide incredibly experienced care to the mother and baby. Quite the busy mobile clinic!

The parish's dump truck on La Gonâve, affectionately called The Beast, does a lot of heavy lifting for construction projects in their communities. It covers difficult terrain while carrying tons of key supplies. The Beast needed new tires, and they arrived this week! Now the truck can continue navigating rough terrain. It is being used right now to continue progress on the Professional Center's new classroom (shown in the third photo). Without this incredible tool, many projects wouldn't be possible, or would take much much longer.
