It’s time to meet another board member of Music in Common. Our board members are crucial to MIC because they help guide and support our mission of using music to connect communities and inspire positive change. Their support means everything to us. 🎶💙

Meet Cheyenne Hawkins! ღ Cheyenne ღ is a Berkshires native who continues to draw inspiration from its sylvan nature and pastoral landscapes. Growing up in a large, diverse, artistic family, she developed a deep appreciation for unity and a passion for self-expression through art in all its forms. Her journey with Music in Common began by following her stepsister, MIC singer Bree Soul, to performances, which naturally grew into a desire to become more involved and learn the inner workings of the organization. Cheyenne has always possessed a strong sense of justice and a conscientious spirit, with a deep belief in the power of music to bring people together. Her heart lies in helping others prosper and strengthening community, making her a natural fit as a Music in Common board member.

Happy Birthday to journalist, Daniel Pearl

Music in Common was founded in 2005 by Todd Mack to honor his friend and band mate, Danny Pearl. Danny was a classically trained violinist and bluegrass fiddler. He used music to connect with people from all over. Music in Common carries forward his legacy and belief in music’s power to build bridges. He would’ve been 63 today♥️

Everyone has a voice in the unfinished story of American democracy. On October 4, bring yours. 🎤

The People's Mic is an afternoon of live music, storytelling, and open mic, and it's for everyone, not just artists. Come to listen, or step up to the mic and share your own. It's a welcoming space to connect across generations and add your voice to the ongoing movement for justice.

The afternoon brings together three experiences:
🎶 Music in Common's Black Legacy Project, with songs, stories, and multimedia performances that trace Black history
✍🏾 A spoken-word showcase hosted by poet and cultural curator Nina Ligon
🎭 "Say It Loud," a bold, interactive social justice improv performance from CFA Repertory Theatre

As we mark 250 years of American democracy, the afternoon draws a line from the Civil Rights Movement to today and shows how music can still bring people together and inspire change.

Meet two of the performers bringing The People's Mic to life on October 4! 🎤

🎶 Music in Common is a nonprofit that creates experiences bringing people together across social divides to find common ground. CNN featured their work in its 2022 Champions for Change series. Their Black Legacy Project reimagines songs from Black history through new music, stories, and multimedia performance, and the project has grown into an album and a docu-series in progress.

🎭 CFA Repertory Theatre brings "Say It Loud," a high-energy, interactive improv show. It blends comedy, culture, and quick thinking to lift up bold Black voices and unapologetic youth experiences, and the audience becomes part of the show.
Join us for an afternoon of music, spoken word, improv, and open mic. Come to listen, or step up to the mic and share your own voice.

Time to meet another one of Music in Common’s board members! 😃

We’re so happy to introduce Adam Amr Moussa and feel super grateful to have someone who connected with MIC as a high school student through our JAMMS program and has continued to be involved and support our mission of using music to bring people together 🎶✨

Adam Moussa was first introduced to Music in Common as a high school student through the JAMMS program, an experience that began a lasting connection with the organization and its mission. Now a medical student, Adam has remained connected to Music in Common and is excited to give back to an organization that played a meaningful role in his own life. He is especially drawn to Music in Common’s ability to bring people from different backgrounds together through music, dialogue, and shared experiences. As a board member, Adam hopes to contribute his perspective as both a former program participant and a young professional committed to service and community engagement.
