Fairrow Wade Productions/What’s UP Girl?! Every year the expectations for individuals in our community are lowered. Fathers and mothers are expected to leave sometimes, get drunk, cheat or abuse. Where does this leave our children? Will they drop out or engage in promiscuous activity, gangs, theft violence? Will they become disillusioned young moms with no foundation and no support, no understandi

ng of who they are or where they belong. Will they grow into strong angry violent young men who choose alcohol as medication, drugs, s*x or quick money? There is a problem. What happens when we are no longer empowered to overcome small obstacles but live them out in a life of total defeat? When we are defeated our children don’t understand the majesty of the world around them. Instead of wonder and awe, they are filled with images they have never grown to understand. The fantasy of video games, music videos, “reality shows” clouds their truth. They are living with parents too busy to share a more sound view. I know this isn’t your household, but even one place where this exists is too many…
What’s UP Girl speaks about empowerment forward movement and taking a stand. We as individuals say that there is still hope. Tell us what you see and how you plan to make a change. Let’s support each other with resources and sound advice. It takes a village. Let’s take some of those skills we’ve learned in college or at the workplace, in churches and the military and start a revolution. We have knowledge on reserve for work, school or church but let’s put it in action.
