Memorial Day is more than a long weekend or a holiday on the calendar. It is a time to reflect on sacrifice, courage, and the families forever impacted by that service.

There are fires people never see.

The kind that do not destroy homes, but quietly consume peace. The kind that sit behind forced smiles, late-night tears, missed calls, and “I’m fine” spoken a little too quickly.

But even fire leaves something behind.

Sometimes it leaves smoke. Sometimes it leaves art. Sometimes it leaves people learning how to survive themselves one soft breath at a time.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we honor the battles carried in silence. Tthe exhaustion, the anxiety, the grief, and the strength it takes to keep showing up anyway.

At the Epilepsy Foundation of Georgia, we know mental health matters.

Not as a slogan.
Not as a trend.
But as something deeply human.

So if all you did today was keep going,
let that be enough.

And when the weight becomes too heavy, may you remember that healing can look like the smallest things:
a quiet moment,
a deep breath,
a page turned,
a brush stroke,
a conversation,
a reason to stay.

Sometimes healing does not arrive loudly.

Sometimes it rises slowly, like purple smoke in the dark, still beautiful despite the fire.

Be kind to yourself. 💜💚

During Stroke Awareness Month, it’s important to recognize the connection between stroke, seizures, and long-term brain health. Each year, hundreds of thousands of people across the United States—and many families here in Georgia—are impacted by stroke. For some individuals, stroke can also lead to seizures or epilepsy months or even years later.

Research shows that stroke is one of the most common reasons people develop epilepsy as they age, and adults with a history of epilepsy may also face higher rates of stroke, especially older adults and those with high blood pressure or limited access to care. Stroke also remains a serious health concern in Black communities and underserved populations, where barriers to prevention, education, and healthcare access can contribute to poorer outcomes. That’s why awareness, prevention, and equitable access to care are essential for improving health across every Georgia community.

Knowing the signs of stroke can save lives. Think F.A.S.T.:
• Face drooping
• Arm weakness
• Speech difficulty
• Time to call 911

Prevention also plays a critical role in protecting long-term health. Staying physically active, maintaining a healthy weight, eating heart-healthy foods, and managing blood pressure are important steps that can lower stroke risk and support lifelong brain health.

Healthy communities start with education. This month, take a moment to learn the signs, prioritize prevention, and share life-saving information with someone you care about.

Today, on World Lupus Day, we stand in support of the millions of individuals and families impacted by lupus around the world. 💜

Lupus is often called an invisible illness, but the strength, resilience, and courage of those living with it deserve to be seen, acknowledged, and supported every day.

Living with a chronic condition can impact every part of a person’s life—physically, emotionally, mentally, and socially—which is why awareness, compassion, advocacy, and access to care matter so deeply.

Today is a reminder that no one navigating lupus should have to do so alone.

We honor the fighters.
We support the survivors.
We acknowledge the unseen battles.

And we continue to stand beside the chronic illness community in hope and solidarity.

This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the many forms of strength, resilience, advocacy, compassion, and love that mothers carry every single day. 💜

To the mothers raising children with epilepsy.

To the mothers navigating medical appointments, uncertainty, sleepless nights, therapies, medications, and emotional challenges while still showing up with courage and unwavering love.

To the grandmothers, bonus moms, caregivers, guardians, and maternal figures who continue to pour into others even when they are exhausted themselves.

We see you.

Motherhood is not one-size-fits-all.
It exists across every age, background, culture, body type, and journey, and every story deserves to be honored.

Some mothers lead quietly.
Some fiercely advocate.
Some carry entire families on their backs while making it look effortless.
Some are still learning how to care for themselves while caring for everyone else.

But through it all, the resilience remains.

Today, we celebrate the women who continue to love deeply, fight tirelessly, and show up consistently, even on the hard days.

You are powerful.
You are appreciated.
And your impact reaches further than you know.
