Meet our USG of Intermediate Committees, Jane Chang!

Jane is a junior at Emory University, double majoring in biology and history. Jane has been involved with SUSMUN since 2012 and is now directly responsible for our intermediate committees: CSW, DISEC, and ECOFIN! Jane has been a great resource for these Directors and Assistant Directors in editing Background Guides and Update Papers, substantive training, and overall staff support.

Jane's advice to delegates is to, "Don't be afraid to speak up in front of committee (we love hearing ya talk!), and have a blast!"

SUSMUN Senior Staff visited The National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta this morning to learn about the Civil Rights Movement and other global struggles for human rights. We feel incredibly inspired and are excited to see how you address these issues in your committees!

Meet our Conference Director, AB Allam!

AB is a junior at the University of Michigan studying business. As our Conference Director, AB has played a big part in securing vendors, managing conference spaces, developing the conference schedule, and creating a conference security protocol. AB has also played a major part in the rest of the administrative tasks leading up to conference.

AB's advice to delegates is "Don't take things TOO seriously and put pressure on yourself to perform. Model UN is a fun, learning experience that you will take with you to college. Come to committee, engage yourself, talk to your fellow delegates, and be creative in your solutions to problems. The more open minded and laid back you are approaching SUSMUN, the more memorable your experience."

Meet our USG of Beginner Committees, Cathie Chen!

Cathie is a junior at Georgetown University studying International Health. Cathie's responsibilities as the USG of Beginner Committees mean she works with our SOCHUM, SPECPOL, CCPJ, and WHO Directors and Assistant Directors to ensure they are supported during preconference preparation and at the conference! Cathie has been the first editor of the Background Guides and Update Papers for all of these committees and will be leading our staff in Parliamentary Procedure training!

Cathie's advice to delegates is "take a deep breath and relax before speaking. It's not as scary to speak again if you speak before a crowd once!" So just put your country on the speaking list once; after you speak the first time it will seem like a breeze the next time!

Meet our Chief of External Relations (CoER), Nathan Eckstein!

Nathan is a junior at the Princeton University Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Nathan is also a member of the Princeton International Relations Club, diSiac Dance Company, and the Princeton University Ballet. Nathan's role as CoER means he is responsible for helping our SG reach out to schools and faculty advisors to ensure any questions or concerns are taken care of appropriately. Nathan is also primarily responsible for handling our Service Learning Project and Keynote speakers.

Nathan's advice to delegates is "It's important that your fellow delegates know that you are the most competent and well-versed on the topics of anyone in the room. It's even more important that you're willing to share your knowledge with the rest of the committee."

ECOFIN delegates, there have been exciting developments in both topics recently!

At a recent high level General Assembly meeting, the use of technology in development was definitely a main focus:

How can different countries work together on these issues most effectively?

Furthermore, a recent United Nations Conference on Trade and Development report calls for large changes in the regulation of the global economy. How will this impact international trade flows and increasingly globalized markets?

With a new sustainable development agenda as the focus of this year’s annual General Assembly debate, African leaders today called on the United Nations to take into consideration the continent’s specific realities and challenges.

Meet our USG of Administrative Affairs, Josh Rogers!

Joshua Rogers graduated from Georgia Southern University in May and is now a graduate student in the Global Governance, Politics, and Security Program in the School of International Service at American University. Josh is also a substitute teacher for the Washington DC public school system. As Admin USG, Josh is responsible for ensuring committees have all the proper resources needed in order to function. Josh runs the Admin room where working papers and draft resolutions are typed and printed and placards, nametags, and programs are sorted and readied for delegates.

Josh's advice to delegates is to "Make and keep the connections you have made through MUN. The "delegates" you are working with now could very well be your peers in college, grad school, or the workforce and you never know when you might want to visit Europe and need a couch to crash on."
