has proposed a park at 98 14th Street, which has been a big hole in the ground for about the last decade after several development plans fell through.

If there's going to be a park, there should really be a safe way to get there by bike. It doesn't make sense to leave this dense and active part of town disconnected.

When bikes and scooters don't have a safe place in the roadway, they often end up on the sidewalk. This has negative impacts for people on foot.

Pedestrians shouldn't have to compete with bikes and scooters for scraps of sidewalk space (and vice versa). We all deserve safe streets.

We need a connected network of protected lanes for bikes and scooters, a connected network of clear, well-maintained sidewalks and crossings for people on foot, and a connected network of reliable public transit. All of these things together will get us where we want to go.

GDOT has announced plans for a new two-way cycle track on 14th Street. The planned cycle track will run along the northern edge of the street, protected by concrete wheelstops and flex posts.

Implementation is planned for this year, with additional (much-needed) crossing improvements scheduled for 2028.

The project is open for comment here until Feb 14: https://sr-9-14th-st-safety-improvements-m006685-gdot.hub.arcgis.com

TL;DR: We're going to be changing things up just a little bit, but we'll still be here!

///

I'm going to be stepping back from running the Instagram page and doing a lot of the hands-on work with Bike Grid for the foreseeable future as I do some community support given the presidential election results, as well as take some time for myself. I'll be supporting the other organizers through this transition over the next few weeks; I still plan to be part of Atlanta Bike Grid long-term, just in a different manner.

Hopefully, I can catch y'all more often out in the streets as a result!

Atlanta is full of wonderful, talented, interesting, and passionate people who want this city to be the best it can be, I'd strongly encourage you to keep an eye out for how you can help build the bike grid movement here in the weeks and months ahead. Atlanta is already a cycling city and deserves a bike grid now; we can work together to make that happen.

All the best for now - Aiya

ADID and CAP are hosting a virtual public info meeting about upcoming changes to Ted Turner Drive in South Downtown tomorrow. The plan is for a two-way conversion to better enable cars to get in/out of the area.

We obviously want as many streets in downtown to serve as streets for everyone, but a master plan drafted last year has Ted Turner solidly planned for cars cars cars.
That said, we know that it's important to make it known that we Atlantans need safe, convenient, and efficient bike lanes connected across the city so that everyone can exercise their right to transit.

If you can make it out to the meeting tomorrow, please join us in voicing support for this two-way conversion (for overall potentially lowered speeds) and consideration for how this will impact cyclists using and crossing Ted Turner.

The next is September 15th, running from the West End to Grant Park! We couldn't be more excited, unless of course we could see some of y'all's darling faces help volunteer 😉

Trust us, it's fun and you get to be part of making Atlanta a place for people, not cars. Let's show the City we love Streets Alive and want more of it!

Check out the link in bio and DM our account if you've got a cargo bike, we'll try to get you connected to see if we can help show off just what bikes can really do 💪🏾

Come out and join us next Saturday for a little more cleaning over on United Ave! We heard that the was seeing more debris in the bike lane, so we're gonna go help make sure we keep everyone safe.

We'll meet just west of the Boulevard x United intersection next Saturday, August 31st at 10am. From there, we'll head down along United to clean it up - so make sure to bring your bike! As usual, we'll try to remove all trash at the end via bike; so, we welcome as many cargo bikes as we can get.

We also recommend wearing a hi-viz/bright color outfit and charging any bike lights that you have. Helpful tools to bring would be:
- Big, wide brooms
- Flat-bottom shovels
- Trashbags
- Gloves
- Water/snack

A reportedly drunk state rep hitting and injuring a cyclist? In a still unfinished GDOT bike lane on Memorial Drive? This is precisely why we need stronger commitments from our Mayor for Vision Zero today, not tomorrow.

This cycletrack obviously needs better protection against drivers. In fact, one of the key principles of is building around people making mistakes and dangerous decisions. Another is that saving lives is not expensive.

While it's good that the cyclist was not seriously injured, car violence is both mental and physical. Paint and low concrete wheel stops are obviously insufficient to protect our right to transit.

Calling all riders and transit supporters: attend the Rally to Keep Five Points Open!

Tomorrow!

Peachtree Street entrance to Five Points station

Frustrated with MARTA's plans to close street and bus rider access to the transit system's hub? Upset that people with disabilities will face additional delays because of the elevator situation? Confused why it will be harder to bike + MARTA for years?

Join us and tell MARTA this plan doesn't work for people who rely on Five Points.

A lot has happened since the Safe Streets & Transit coalition came together to keep Five Points open to pedestrians, bus riders, and people with disabilities.
564 people have signed the petition.
Mayor Dickens asked MARTA to pause the project, and media is covering City of Atlanta/MARTA back and forth daily. But MARTA still plans to close access to Five Points street level, adding delays to trips that already take too long for people with disabilities, pedestrians, and bus riders.
Here's how you can help:
- Email MARTA board members sharing your concerns
- Share the petition on your social media
- Share how this long-term closure will impact your life
