The devastating attacks on October 7 three years ago changed the world. We acknowledge that this day will forever be one of grief and wish to show up for our friends, loved ones, and broader community in the face of global conflict and extreme suffering. We believe that the desire for safety, security and human dignity is stronger than violence and hate.
We can’t fully end violence in the Middle East from Atlanta or Birmingham or New Orleans or Nashville. What we can control is how SOJOURN’s sacred work creates a more just and compassionate South for everyone at the intersection of LGBTQ+ and Jewish communities.
SOJOURN knows the importance of facilitating difficult conversations among people with a variety of backgrounds, life experience and points-of-view. We know that moving through these conversations together enhances vital ties of support, and creates welcoming spaces as we unite in our efforts for equality, safety, and compassion for all.
Rooted in Jewish values, we affirm that all people are created b’tzelem Elohim, in the image of the Divine, and we believe in pikuach nefesh - the sanctity of human life above all else.
Oseh shalom bimromav, hu ya’aseh shalom aleinu, v’al kol yisrael, v’al kol yosh’vei tevel.
May the one who makes peace in the high heavens, make peace upon us, for all of Israel, and for all who inhabit the earth.
