Recently, our CSP team hit the streets for the annual Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, connecting with our unhoused neighbors and gathering crucial data to better understand homelessness in our city.

This work informs policy, funding, and services that support housing stability—because standing with our community means making sure every voice counts. ❤️

The uncertainty of the federal funding freeze threatens to destabilize housing security for countless Atlanta families, putting those who rely on housing vouchers at particular risk. With critical housing initiatives in jeopardy, both tenants and landlords face a changing landscape. The consequences could push many to the brink of homelessness.

In the latest from Atlanta Civic Circle, AVLF Executive Director Michael Lucas shares what those impacts could be should the freeze move forward.

“For the tenants, the very real, very human toll could include joining the already growing ranks of homelessness in Atlanta,” said Lucas. “We are talking about residents — seniors, those with disabilities, the working poor — who are living with a very thin margin of error.”

As the need for legal and social services grows, AVLF remains unwavering in our commitment to standing with our neighbors, defending housing rights, and fighting for a more just Atlanta.

Since 1979, we’ve been here for Atlanta—standing for families facing eviction, advocating for survivors of intimate partner abuse, and ensuring that all of our neighbors in Atlanta have the legal support they need to stay safe and housed.

But right now, our ability to meet the growing demand for our services is being tested.

More families than ever need essential legal and social services. More survivors are reaching out for support. More tenants are fighting to keep a roof over their heads.

We’re always ready to stand with our neighbors and survivors. But we need you to stand with us.

Let’s stand stronger, together. Join the fight for justice and make a gift today at www.avlf.org/donate

Yesterday, members of our Safe and Stable Families team joined advocates, system stakeholders, and community members at the Capitol for Standing with Survivors Day. This annual event brings people together from across Georgia to rally and meet with elected officials about legislation that impacts survivors, their families, and their communities.

It was a powerful day of advocacy and solidarity, and we’re grateful to stand strong with so many dedicated voices working toward safety and justice. 💜

National Stalking Awareness Month comes to end this week, but it is crucial to emphasize the ongoing significance of heightened awareness, particularly for victims of intimate partner abuse.

Stalking is often a precursor to more severe forms of abuse, and by maintaining vigilance beyond this dedicated month, we can contribute to the safety and well-being of those affected by domestic violence.

While January has served as a platform to shed light on the pervasive issue of stalking, our commitment to recognizing and addressing the signs must persist year-round.

By fostering a community that remains informed and supportive, we create a safer environment for victims to seek help, break the cycle of abuse, and rebuild their lives.

Today, as we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are reminded of his enduring commitment to justice and equity—values that inspire and drive everything we do at ATL Volunteer Lawyers Foundation.

Dr. King’s vision of a fair and equitable society resonates deeply with our mission to provide access to legal advocacy and housing stability for all Atlantans. His belief in the power of service and community reminds us why we show up every day: to stand with those most impacted by injustice.

Today, let’s recommit ourselves to serving, advocating and lifting up our neighbors, just as Dr. King envisioned. Together, we can make his dream a reality.
