Opening of the Call to Action against Gender-based Violence in Emergency Annual Meeting at the UN city in Copenhagen.
Key points and key observations from partners at the 1st opening panel are:
- The localisation of the important actions: it is crucial to involve and recognise the leadership of local organisations . The CtA needs to strengthen the capacities of women's and youth organisations and encourage the mobilisation of women lawyers; Groups and networks of girls and women living in crisis contexts for an effective response to GBV.
- The prioritisation of GBV in emergency by political leaders in all sectors: The absence of the Global South states in the CaT implementation and meetings must be corrected.
- Funding++ and direct funding of local organisations: The issue of GBV must be prioritised in the distribution of funding. Eliminate Cumbersome and difficult regulations that prevent direct funding of local organisations. But while it is true that donors need to review funding rules and standards, there is a need to assess organisations' capacities and build them to manage funds effectively.
- Involvement of the private sector and the development of clear and appropriate legislative framework.
