Dr. Kari completed her Ph.D. in Trichology at the International Institute of Trichology and received her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications at University of California, Berkeley. With over 20 years of experience as a natural hair care specialist, she served as President and Vice President of the California Board of Barbering & Cosmetology, appointed by Governor Jerry Brown from 2013-2021. She is also the founder and Chief Formulator of Beauty by Dr K, a new brand of healthy hair care products that have been formulated as a backed-by-science approach to healthier hair and scalp. Dr. Kari is a highly sought-after speaker, who's reputation as a trusted stylist has led to her establishment of relationships with notable celebrities such as Brandy Norwood, Ava DuVernay, Meagan Good, Keri Hilson, Willow Smith, Kelis, Halle Berry, Ayesha Curry, Chloe Bailey, and Ciara.
