The never-ending storm! How can you stay positive while watching someone die and grieving 24/7 without a funeral?
Family caregiving can ask a person to live with two truths at once: deep love for someone and deep grief over what is changing. There may be no clear ending to mourn, no real opportunity to recover, and no one waiting to take over when you are exhausted. Being told to “stay positive” can sometimes leave little room for the sadness, fear, frustration, and uncertainty that are also part of this experience. Caregivers deserve space for the whole truth, not only the hopeful parts.
