We often compare our full reality
to someone else’s highlight reel.

Protect your mental wellbeing by remembering:
“You don’t see their context, only their outcome.”

Stay grounded in your own story.

Dear working professionals,

There’s a particular image I carry with me each morning as I head into work, this one.

Feet grounded. Breath steady. Shoulders open to possibility. The quiet reminder that before I am anything to anyone else, I am responsible for being whole within myself.

In the rhythm of the waves and the stillness of the pose, I’m reminded that calm is not something we find, it’s something we practice. Intentionally. Repeatedly. Faithfully.

Work, in spaces that serve others, can be beautiful, meaningful, and deeply demanding. Without anchors, we drift. Without restoration, we fracture.

So I return, in my mind and in my body, to this place of balance. A promise to myself that peace is not a luxury; it is maintenance.

Like the English poets who wrote of nature as both refuge and teacher, I’ve learned that stillness sharpens purpose. When we pause long enough to breathe, we remember why we began.

This is a practice I intend to keep for a lifetime, protecting my energy so I can show up fully for the people and the work I care about most.

If you don’t already carry a mental sanctuary with you into your day, I invite you to create one. Visit it often. Let it hold you steady.

Because the world doesn’t just need what you do, it needs who you are when you are well.

Douglas County Emergency Management and Public Safety leaders are closely monitoring the threat of inclement weather in our area this weekend, which could include a dangerous mix of snow and ice resulting in potential power outages. Please make sure you are weather-aware and prepared. Here are some tips to help safeguard your family, pets, and home:

• Ensure you have flashlights and extra batteries
• Keep enough non-perishable food, water, and medications for at least three days
• Maintain an updated first-aid kit
• Have baby supplies on hand (formula, diapers, etc.), if needed
• Ensure you have warm clothing and blankets
• Charge phones and electronic devices in advance
• Make sure your carbon monoxide detector is working properly
• Let faucets drip slightly and open cabinet doors to help prevent frozen pipes

Stay connected to our platforms for updates. You can also sign up for Alert Douglas for emergency notifications: Text “AlertDouglas” to 226787, or visit douglascountyga.gov for additional registration details.

“We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.”
— Martin Luther King Jr.

Today we honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. by remembering that wellbeing is not only personal, it is collective. His life reminds us that care, dignity, and compassion are practices we extend to ourselves and to one another. As a wellness community, we remain committed to creating spaces rooted in hope, connection, and the steady work of love. ~Rita

Merry Christmas.

Today is a day of thanksgiving, praise, and reflection.. not about gifts or spending, but about the reason for the season. It is the day we pause to thank God for the greatest gift of all:

“For unto us a child is born, and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Prince of Peace.” Jesus ✨ Luke Chapter 2

May this season also remind us of the power of community; sharing presence, gratitude, and connection with one another.

Wishing you peace and a blessed Christmas. 🎄

Trauma-Informed Care Reminder (save & share):

It’s okay to cry about something you know you’ve healed from.

Healing doesn’t mean the absence of emotion. It means the experience no longer controls your safety, choices, or sense of self.

When tears surface after healing, it’s often because the nervous system finally feels safe enough to release what it once had to protect.

For human service professionals, this is an important reframe to share with clients. Normalizing emotional release reduces shame, builds self-trust, and reinforces that feeling does not mean failing, it often means integration.

Consider adding this language to your trauma-informed care toolkit and sharing it with those who worry that emotion equals regression.

🧠 Healing isn’t linear.
🤍 Tears don’t erase progress.
🛠️ Validation is intervention.
