Intrenchment Creek Community Stewardship Council

Intrenchment Creek Community Stewardship Council ICCSC is a newly-formed organization working to reverse decades of environmental injustice impacting the residents of our south Atlanta communities.

The Intrenchment Creek Community Stewardship Council hopes to reduce stormwater flooding, restore natural areas of the Creek where possible, and improve the quality of life for those who live, work, and play in our watershed.

Proctor, Tanyard, Clear, and Intrenchment creeks all begin downtown and flow out from the city like spokes—west, north, east, and south. The creeks predate the railroads and highways that have nearly buried them, but their exact sources remain a mystery.

While we aren't doing a lot of endorsing just yet, we wanted to remind you that the co-founder of ICCSC is running for City Council! Please help us get more voice on Council for Intrenchment Creek by voting for Jason Dozier on Tuesday if you live in District 4!

‼️‼️ VOTE ‼️‼️

I just voted to slow down cars in our neighborhoods, to keep families in their homes, and to keep our parks and schools safe from gun violence. If you agree that City Hall needs to prioritize our communities, then join me in voting for Jason Dozier for Atlanta City Council District 4.

Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day to the The Muscogee Creek Nation whose territory included the South River watershed & river valleys across present-day Georgia, Tennessee & Alabama. Accounts indicate that the Muscogee called the South River the "Weelahnee" (spelled phonetically in English). Research continues but the name Weelahnee appears to mean "green waters" or "green river". The prefix “ue” (pronounced wee) means “water”, and the word “Lane” (pronounced lah-nee) often means “green” in reference to water. 💚 With great respect and gratitude SRWA continues to fight to protect the Weelahnee and her emerald waters, now and for generations to come. image credit: Muscogee Creek Nation

Do something! Make a video, write an email, attend a community meeting, organize a rally, or just talk to your neighbor about issues impacting your community. Whatever part you can play, play it!

And please watch Lily's excellent video to learn more about the proposed plan to build a police training facility at the Prison Farm site and how it will impact residents of Intrenchment Creek.

It is not in the City’s best interest to take the risk of leasing land that consists of soil ...
