Seven days. Thirty days. One year.

Jewish mourning follows a clear path. But why these numbers?

Is it about giving the mourner time to heal?
Is it about the soul's journey after passing?
Is it about gently guiding us back to life?

What do you think? Share your guess below. πŸ‘‡

Come find out in Journey of the Soul, Wednesdays at 7:30 PM starting October 28, at Chabad of Hall County or on Zoom. The first class is free. And if cost is a concern, we do have a dedicated scholarship fund.

Once again, these awesome people came together to cook, chop, bake, and fry for our community. Thank you to each and every one of you for taking off a Sunday to help others. Looking forward to the next one in November!

This week I sat down with someone for the very first time. Partway through our conversation, they pulled out a small notebook to show me something.

Before we'd ever met, they wanted to pray on Shabbat. They didn't have a prayer book, their printer wasn't working, and they didn't want to use their phone on Shabbat. So they went on Chabad.org and copied a page or two of prayers by hand, spelled out so they could read them.

How special and cool is that? The people here in Northeast Georgia are truly special, and it's an honor and a privilege to serve them. It also shows why our presence here matters. We're here so anyone can connect with our beautiful Jewish heritage, and so everyone has the right and the chance to learn their tradition. And yes, we have a working printer and plenty of prayer books. Reach out anytime and we'll get you one.

Life is short(ish).

The soul isn't. Six Wednesday evenings on what Judaism says about the part that lasts β€” what happens when we die, whether our loved ones stay connected to us, and how all of it changes the way we live right now.

Journey of the Soul starts October 28, in person in Gainesville or on Zoom. First class is free.

Tonight's the last night for the $99 early-bird rate β€” tomorrow it goes to $110.

All the details are in the first comment.

Why do we light a candle for someone we've lost?

Is it to guide their soul?
To keep their memory alive?
Because a flame says something about the soul itself?

And while you're thinking, why a stone on a grave? Why tear a garment at a funeral?

We've all seen these traditions. Few of us know the reasons behind them. Come find out in Journey of the Soul, Wednesdays at 7:30 PM starting October 28, at Chabad of Hall County or on Zoom.

The $99 early bird price ends this Thursday, October 15. Bring a friend and you both save 10%.

This week: Noah's Silence. Would you fight G-d to save the world?

When G-d told Noah the world was about to end, Noah didn't argue. He didn't plead. He just started building the ark.

Centuries later, Moses faced the same moment with his own people, and he put his life on the line to save them.

So who got it right? Why does Jewish tradition call the flood "the waters of Noah," almost like it was his fault? And what does it teach us about how we judge the people around us?

We'll dig into the story with a short class, a great Chassidic tale, and plenty of time for your questions and thoughts.
