Okay MFA, this one is huge.

We are hosting an “In Conversation” film showcase where you as a creator can submit any piece of film that you are working on or have worked on, and discuss it with the audience. Your film can be anything, such as a music video, short film, or documentary! This is a great opportunity to share your work with other creatives, while holding a “conversation” about your piece.

Additionally, this serves as great content and experience for your LinkedIn and resumé, since you’ll be presenting your work on a panel platform in front of an audience.

How it works is you’ll submit your piece to us, and on the day of the event we’ll present your film to an audience, and once it’s over, we discuss it! This is a great way to put yourselves out there while getting inspired by other people’s films. Lastly, if you intend on being a professional filmmaker, this is great practice for presenting your work in front of an audience and discussing it, since you’ll be doing that a lot once you’re successful ;)

⚠️ Your film cannot exceed 20 minutes. You do not have to submit a film to attend the event. Your work doesn’t have to be recent. ⚠️

Greetings filmmaker family!

This Wednesday (4/1) , we’ll be hosting a romantic documentary titled “An Oversimplification of Her Beauty,” directed by Terence Nance. This experimental film, blending live action, animation, and documentary, captures the raw authenticity of a failed relationship, memory, and the nature of love between a Black couple. Within the film, Namik Minter, the love interest, failed to show up to a date with Terence Nance. Will you fail to show up to the screening? If you do, Terence might make a film about that too. Hope to see you there!

And as always, food will be provided. 😋

Did you miss us? Well we missed you!

For this week’s event, we’re curating a very special cinematography workshop that teaches you the fundamentals of recording a film. This workshop will include working on professional equipment, such as a red camera. This event is open to any experience level, and is crucial for those who want to learn the ability to record their own film. However, if you’d just like to learn a new skill, this is perfect for you too!

This event will be led by the experienced and talented Khalil Gantt and Marcus Drake, your MFA secretary and vice president.

Come see us on Wednesday 3/25 in Brawley 001!

Welcome back filmmaker family! To start off the new spring semester, we’ll be having a meeting on Wednesday in Brawley 001. In this meeting you’ll learn what it takes to develop an award winning story with Saxton Moore, a fellow E-board member.

Saxton Moore Jr. is a third-year storyteller and filmmaker from Richmond, Virginia, and a Cinema, Television, and Emerging Media Studies major at Morehouse College. He is the published author of Wendell Scott: Born Driven and is passionate about telling impactful stories that center Black voices and experiences across film and literature.

If you’re interested in learning how to write stories for your future films, then this is a great opportunity for you! If you simply missed us, then you should still come. See you there!! 🎬
