100 Years of Black History: The DMH Foundation Honors a Legacy
As we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Black History Month (1926–2026), The DMH Foundation proudly recognizes the enduring legacy of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the “Father of Black History.” A century ago, Dr. Woodson founded “Negro History Week” (later Black History Month) to ensure that Black contributions were acknowledged, preserved, and taught with truth and dignity.
As a devoted pastor, social justice leader, and activist, Dr. Hentz embodied the proactive, 365-day commitment to Black history that Dr. Woodson envisioned.
Social Justice Leadership: Dr. Hentz was a staunch defender of the underserved, fighting against inequity and racism while serving as an activist on local and national levels.
Ministry & Community: As the former pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church of New Rochelle, NY, and founder of the Family of God (FOG) Church, he transformed communities through expanding ministry outreach and spearheading affordable senior housing.
Activist & Scholar: Recognized as a member of the Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Preachers at Morehouse College, he used his platform to foster education and empower the next generation.
The DMH Foundation honors Dr. Woodson’s historical foundation and celebrates Dr. Hentz for carrying that torch forward, demonstrating that Black history is American history—past, present, and future.
