Fostering Impact is on a mission! We can make improvements to the child welfare system and refocus our attention on what matters most- protecting abused and neglected children and achieving timely permanency.

Fostering Impact’s CEO, Jennifer Shinpoch elaborates more, “In child welfare, most problems are relational, such as identifying trauma and healing trauma, healing from substance abuse, leading families to reunification or other safe permanency options, and creating felt-safety within the system. As a nation, we need to dig deeper into reassessing our foundation for child welfare…”

“We stand at a pivotal moment in the history of Georgia for abused and neglected children. We can either choose to stand united, making movements towards solutions rooted in community and partnership, or we can choose to isolate, individualize and point fingers. Within the context of community, partnerships lead to empowerment, transparency, creative solutions, and more importantly healing. Autonomy leads to fear, division, and continued quick fixes without lasting solutions.”

This is an excerpt that from a letter I sent to Senator Ossoff after listening to the Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearings related to child welfare in Georgia. If you want to take the time to read the full letter, you can click on the link in the bio. It’s so important that we come together right now to fight for children.

Fostering Impact’s CEO and Chief Counsel completed TBRI Practitioner training through the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development with TCU this past week. TBRI is short for Trust Based Relational Intervention and is used to offer hope and healing with the 3 pillars of Felt-Safety, Connection, and Regulation for children from hard places. We joined the growing network of other organizations utilizing and implementing TBRI from around the state. As Dr. Purvis says in her nurture groups, we plan to stick together in our pursuit to bring healing to child welfare! In the future we will be available to teach TBRI to others!

We need your help today! SB 230 has been held up in the Juvenile Justice committee. Earlier this week, Chief Counsel Tom Rawlings defended and championed the bill in this committee. We would appreciate it if you would contact Chairwoman Mandi Ballinger today to express how important this bill is for expanding the amount caregivers the foster parent bill of rights includes and the amount of advocates available. Many of these caregivers are relatives who currently do not receive the benefits of the foster parent bill of rights. SB 230 was introduced by Senator Matt Brass and the Senate unanimously voted yes for its passage. In your message or phone call to Representative Ballinger please communicate you would like the same type of attentive response and vote from the Juvenile Justice committee. This bill is important for the recruitment and retention of all those taking care of children in vulnerable situations. We have until 1pm tomorrow for the committee to vote on this important piece of legislation, otherwise it will be tabled until next year. Please help us today communicate either by email or a quick phone call to her office!

There will also be other ways to support us in the days ahead as we embark on a new legislative season here in Georgia. Sign up for our emails to stay informed on how you can support us.

Most of all we are thankful for all of the support and encouragement as we have launched. Thank you! Here is to a new beginning in 2023! 🎉

Dear Friends,
On Friday, November 18th, Fostering Impact launched as a non-profit! We had a great start because of your generosity and kindness towards our mission to make sure abused children and youth are put first in child-centered laws and policies!

Today is Giving Tuesday. A day set aside to acknowledge all the wonderful gifts God has given us and because of his generosity, we give back to organizations reaching the voiceless and vulnerable. As you consider who you might open your heart and hands up to, please consider making Fostering Impact a non-profit you bless with your generosity.

I'd like to share with you some of our goals for our organization that can only be made possible by the generosity of others!

⊙ A law clinic to represent children and continued support for those who care for them.
⊙ Education elements for all of those involved in child welfare
⊙ Unification of like-minded organizations for child centered laws and policies.

To be honest, fundraising is a little scary for me! I feel much more comfortable giving to others rather than asking others to give. Here is the amazing thing that drives my heart to ask; I'm asking on behalf of the most amazing people in our society- children in foster care. They cannot ask for themselves because they don't know their needs, but we do. We see the brokenness and the injustice, and we can ask our legislators to change it for their betterment.

Here are our financial goals that you can help us reach by sharing with others our mission and need:

⊙ Immediate goal for startup costs and operation - 10k- we are half way there!
⊙ Intermediate goal for a strong start into January 2023 legislation with lobbying & education tools - 40k.
⊙ Long term goal to support staff and begin developing the law clinic - 1 million.

You know what I'm really looking forward to? Sharing with you how your generosity is changing a child's life! Please tell your family and friends who Fostering Impact is and the mission we have to change child welfare!

➡️ If you'd like to give, go to fosteringimpact.com/donate right now!
