Now is the Time to Contact City Council members!
After the community meeting with Alex Wan last night, he has said he is voting no to the Portman project. Which is good news. However, Alex has advised us to contact all City Council members and have our voice heard . The full city council wll have the final say we need them to vote No. We need every vote.
You will find talking points and all City Council members phone numbers and emails on the links below. We need to email and phone them every day to let them know to vote No to the Portman proposal for Amsterdam Walk.
The Zoning Board Vote may be on the 10th of March, the Community Developoment vote may be the 11th of March and the full City Council Vote may be as early as March 17th.
We need you to contacted them every day until the full city council vote happens. We will keep you informed if we hear an exact date. and any other information.
Remember, very soon, perhaps as soon as March 10-11, the Zoning and Community Development/Human Services (CD/HS) Committees will be voting on the Portman applications. We need to let them know that the Portman plan is neither feasible nor appropriate in scale for Amsterdam Walk.
For over a year, the community has been calling for SMART development--in other words, a design that fits in with the surrounding neighborhood and is right-sized for land-locked Amsterdam Walk. Instead, the new proposal has increased the number of apartments from 840 to as many as 1,100, along with the same 1,435 parking spaces. The traffic generated by this massive apartment complex will completely overwhelm Monroe Drive, since it is the only way in or out, and negatively impact the overall quality of life.
Opposition to the Portman plan is not based on opposition to creating more affordable housing. That is not what this is about. It is a question of whether this proposal is going to enhance or diminish the overall quality of life in the surrounding neighborhoods. We need smart and sensible development. We need A Better Amsterdam Walk!

We do not know exactly when the vote will take place. It could be as early as March 17th or later on April 21st. We need to show up in numbers to let the City Council members know how we feel.
We are at a critical moment. It is important that we make sure our community gets the kind of smart development it deserves! , your emails and phone calls will be a huge help in supporting a Better Amsterdam Walk. Thank you for you time it is very much appreciated.
Kind Regards
Jacinta
