This Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States. Their sacrifice and courage will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

As attorneys, we are reminded that the freedoms we enjoy — to speak, vote, advocate, and pursue justice — were protected through the sacrifices of generations of service members.

We also recognize the contributions of Haitians and Haitian-Americans who have proudly served in the U.S. Armed Forces, continuing a legacy of resilience, courage, and service. 🇭🇹🇺🇸

Today, we remember the fallen, honor their sacrifice, and recommit ourselves to justice and service.

A message from our President:

Today, on the celebration of Haitian Flag Day, we honor more than the creation of a national symbol — we honor the enduring legal and democratic ideals that the Haitian flag represents. The blue and red of the Haitian flag stand as a historic declaration of liberty, equality, self-determination, and the rule of law born from the only successful slave revolution in world history: the Haitian Revolution.

As President of the Haitian American Lawyers Association of Georgia, I recognize Haitian Flag Day not only as a cultural celebration, but as a reminder of the profound legal legacy Haiti contributed to the world. Haiti’s independence in 1804 challenged the legal foundations of slavery and colonial oppression at a time when freedom for all people was not recognized under many systems of law. The Haitian people asserted through action that human dignity is not granted by governments — it is inherent and must be protected by law.

That principle continues to guide our work today.

As attorneys, judges, advocates, and legal professionals, we understand that the law is strongest when it protects the vulnerable, guarantees equal justice, and preserves the constitutional rights of all people regardless of race, nationality, language, or economic status. Haitian Americans across Georgia and throughout the United States continue to contribute meaningfully to the legal profession, public service, business, education, and civic leadership while carrying forward a legacy rooted in resilience and justice.

Haitian Flag Day also reminds us of our continuing responsibility to defend access to justice, due process, immigration protections, civil rights, and equal opportunity under the law. In a time when many communities face legal uncertainty and social division, the Haitian-American legal community remains committed to advocacy grounded in integrity, professionalism, and service.

The history of Haiti teaches the legal profession an important truth: laws that deny humanity ultimately fail, while laws rooted in justice endure.

Today, we proudly celebrate Haitian heritage, Haitian excellence, and the continuing impact of the Haitian diaspora within Georgia and beyond. We honor the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom, and we recommit ourselves to ensuring that the legal system remains a vehicle for fairness, accountability, and opportunity for future generations.

On behalf of the Haitian American Lawyers Association of Georgia, I wish everyone a meaningful and proud Haitian Flag Day.
