Please make your grandparents and elders aware of these common scams!
CHARITY SCAMS
Be wary of facebook/social media messages, calls, texts, and emails from people claiming to represent a nonprofit or charity. Ask them for the EIN number, which you can look for in the "IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search" at: apps.IRS.gov/app/eos/
Don't send donations through third-party services like CashApp - it's safer to donate at a nonprofit's official website or FB page.
COVID TESTING FOR PEOPLE WITH DIABETES SCAMS
Scammers are offering "free covid-19 testing kits" to people with diabetes in exchange for their personal information. If you want to get tested, contact your healthcare provider and ask for their suggestions.
Other scams include:
TREATMENT SCAMS
Scammers are calling people and pretending to be healthcare professionals, asking for payment information to cover fake hospital bills of a sick family member. Keep in touch with people and let them know if you're okay.
SOCIAL SECURITY SCAMS
Scammers are sending official-looking letters telling people their SS benefits will be suspended unless they call a number and confirm their personal information. SS benefits are not affected by the virus, and the Social Security Administration will NOT ask you for personal information over phone or email.
