The high recidivism problem start from before prisoners get out of jail due to the lack of resources they can use to be reintegrated back into society. Some injustices include captive labor and disfranchisement. Starting rehabilitation programs for prisoners while they are still incarcerated would help greatly in their transition to society. These include education, risk assessment, and drug abuse treatment.

Education in prisons is an important key to helping with prisoner reintegration. Educational programs will help prisoners avoid hardship after release, as lack of educational or occupational experience makes it hard for them to get jobs. Around 70% of current or former offenders dropped out of high school. According to research, prisoners who go through correctional education are 43% less likely to be imprisoned again. Education for prisoners before their release benefits both them personally and their communities as a whole.

Attention must be called to the inequality within judicial operations as many disparities and systemic injustices continue to unfortunately exist, as they have since the creation of the system. These numbers should cause unease, and we need to stimulate change. More states must require bias training for law enforcement and screening before job acceptance statutorily in hopes of lowering these statistics. Furthermore, more legislative studies and judicial task forces need to be created to deal with racial inequalities. We must treat all Americans indifferently. The goal is not militarization, and race bias will not be tolerated. Education and a solid understanding is the first step towards change, and from there we can act together.

In the United States, prisoners face numerous barriers to reintegration into society, often leading to recidivism and the perpetuation of the prison industrial complex. However, activism and community support can help to break down these barriers and assist prisoners in successfully transitioning back into their communities.

This study notes how child support is somewhat overlooked as a barrier to smooth reintegration, with the focus being more on housing, substance abuse, mental health, and employment needs.

Join us in advocating for fair and just policies, and encouraging your lawmakers to consider methods of addressing this alternative perspective.

Welcome! We are Georgia Tech Students in a US Government class that would like to see our country improve starting with Prison Reformation. Currently, the United States has the highest rates of annual incarcerations compared to the rest of the world (yes even higher than China, Cuba, and many other countries known for having strict penal systems). We believe we can help lower incarceration rates by adding policies that support re-integrating former prisoners into society and providing better rehabilitation centers to prevent repeat offenders. (This is a project and will not be updated further)
