Not that we condone hoarding but….. It is a great day when you go to your fabric stock and find the fabric used to build the garment back in 1989.

Can you spot the difference? 🙃 We found out one of our tape measures has outdated measurements by an entire inch! Welp, time to throw that one away 😅
Did you notice the difference between the tape measures right away??

Well, we know precisely how long (in inches) it took to notice that the machine was going above and beyond managing to get through both the fabric and the clear ruler.

Clearly the genie had a sense of humor this is not exactly what we had in mind when we wished for a Midas touch….. but this weekends performances of Beauty and the Beast are going to be magical regardless:

Tech week can be long, with a lot of hurry up and wait, but the magical (and sometimes humorous) moments can make it all worth it. Come by and see all of the dancers hard work this weekend. Link in bio.

Atlanta Ballet Costume shop making medical protective gear

With the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the nation (and the globe), the Atlanta Ballet costume shop has converted the shop into a small factory for medical protective devices! Normally we would be preparing for ballet performances, but in order to help medical workers during this pandemic, we have switched gears to use our skills to produce masks for the medical community in Atlanta.

So far, we’ve produced hundreds masks coversfor hospitals in and outside of Atlanta, and we have requests from hospitals keeping us working at maximum capacity. There is a huge shortage of N95 masks in the US right now, due to a variety of factors, not least the extreme speed at which COVID-19 is spreading. Hospitals are realizing that mask covers help dramatically prolong the life of existing masks, adding another layer of protection for medical personnel on the front line. We are functioning entirely with material donations; if you’d like to help out, we’re accepting donations of the following: - 100% cotton fabric (must be 100% cotton; quilting cotton is perfect!) - 3/8” and 1/2” poly grosgrain and poly twill tape (using polyester for the ties speeds up the production process by allowing us to burn the ends to finish them; cotton tape takes much longer to finish). This is the biggest need, as it takes two yards (72”) of of ribbon for one mask! If you would like to make your own N95 mask covers to support this effort, this is the pattern we are using, developed by an NP and RN local to Atlanta, the BaLa N95 Mask Cover (fits over all sizes of N95 mask): https://www.facebook.com/groups/890875771382856/

You can find an online tutorial for making this mask here: http://www.abigailcdpolston.com/humbleandworthblog/2020/3/24/how-to-make-n95-mask-covers-pattern-by-atlanta-rn

Costume shops all over the nation are joining this fight against COVID-19, as medical facilities wrestle with mask shortages. We can all do our bit to help! Reach out if you would like to join us in this support of medical workers on the front lines of this crisis.
