Our youngest shop member was giving her notes during tech to make sure that we had a polished opening to the Nutcracker on Saturday. 😁

With the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the nation (and the globe), the Atlanta Ballet costume shop has converted the shop into a small factory for medical protective devices! Normally we would be preparing for ballet performances, but in order to help medical workers during this pandemic, we have switched gears to use our skills to produce masks for the medical community in Atlanta.
So far, we’ve produced hundreds masks coversfor hospitals in and outside of Atlanta, and we have requests from hospitals keeping us working at maximum capacity. There is a huge shortage of N95 masks in the US right now, due to a variety of factors, not least the extreme speed at which COVID-19 is spreading. Hospitals are realizing that mask covers help dramatically prolong the life of existing masks, adding another layer of protection for medical personnel on the front line. We are functioning entirely with material donations; if you’d like to help out, we’re accepting donations of the following: - 100% cotton fabric (must be 100% cotton; quilting cotton is perfect!) - 3/8” and 1/2” poly grosgrain and poly twill tape (using polyester for the ties speeds up the production process by allowing us to burn the ends to finish them; cotton tape takes much longer to finish). This is the biggest need, as it takes two yards (72”) of of ribbon for one mask! If you would like to make your own N95 mask covers to support this effort, this is the pattern we are using, developed by an NP and RN local to Atlanta, the BaLa N95 Mask Cover (fits over all sizes of N95 mask): https://www.facebook.com/groups/890875771382856/

Costume shops all over the nation are joining this fight against COVID-19, as medical facilities wrestle with mask shortages. We can all do our bit to help! Reach out if you would like to join us in this support of medical workers on the front lines of this crisis.
