As begins, we honor and celebrate all those who came before us; those who fought tirelessly for justice and equal rights in our nation – and specifically the black q***r trailblazers who often go overlooked and unseen. We stand on their shoulders, recognizing that the freedoms we enjoy today are inextricably linked to their work and sacrifices.
As James Baldwin writes: "To accept one’s past – one’s history – is not the same thing as drowning in it; it is learning how to use it." May we reflect on the struggles and triumphs of our black siblings – and, in turn, use that history to continue cultivating a world of equity, justice, and belonging that fully and beautifully reflects the kingdom of God.
