Augusta Transit is making a major move toward cleaner, quieter public transportation with the arrival of five battery-electric buses expected later this year. The city was awarded more than $6 million in federal grant funding in 2022 to purchase the buses—marking a first for public transit in the Central Savannah River Area. While the chargers are already in place, the buses themselves are expected to hit Augusta streets in late fall. City leaders say the shift to electric transit is only the beginning of a broader plan to modernize public transportation in the region. Read more here: https://tinyurl.com/yc4pdx6y

Our team had a great time at UGA's E-Mobility Summit! Sumner Pomeroy, our Program Manager, Spencer Clifford, our Program Coordinator, and our two new Green Fleet Fellows Larry Heiman and Autumn Starbird were able to attend. For EV manufacturing and industry, Georgia has more than $29B in investments that will provide 36,000 jobs across 31 counties. Despite misinformation in the news, electric vehicle purchases continue to rise. We keep charging on!

Join us on November 14th from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM for a compelling webinar exploring the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) in home service fleets. Designed for professionals in industries like HVAC, landscaping, electrical services, and more, this session will highlight the practical benefits and solutions of going electric.

We’re thrilled to feature Lawn Capital, a leading name in sustainable landscaping, as our presenter. Learn directly from their experience transitioning to an electric fleet and the impact it’s had on their operations. Discover how electrification has driven down costs, boosted eco-friendly practices, and positioned Lawn Capital as a forward-thinking leader in the industry.

In addition to hearing real-world insights, we’ll break down common challenges such as charging infrastructure, vehicle selection, and cost hurdles, offering practical strategies to overcome them.

The event includes a dynamic presentation from Lawn Capital, followed by a moderated Q&A session—giving you the opportunity to engage directly and ask your questions.

The world needs more workplaces with EV chargers. That’s why The EMPOWER Project exists.

And it’s why a campaign has launched to celebrate forward-thinking employers in the U.S. who are providing chargers for their employees.

Workplace charging is life changing for people who can’t have a charger at home, but want to save money (and the planet) by driving electric.

The EMPOWER Project's goal is to crown an EV Charging Champion–an organization that’s gone above and beyond to offer EV chargers to their employees.

Whether or not you win, EVERY organization who applies will be featured on their website, promoted on social media, and sent a certificate to commemorate their success. 🙌

Nominations are accepted through December 31, 2024. APPLY HERE 👉 https://lnkd.in/gvJgaNq4 👈

Please note: to qualify, the organization needs to have installed chargers on or after April 1, 2022. Find out more here: https://www.workplacecharging.com/

Thank you to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for funding EMPOWER.

We're excited to share that the EPA has announced the opening of the 2024 Clean School Bus (CSB) Rebate Program application period! This is the third rebate funding opportunity through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s multi-year CSB Program. Under the 2024 CSB Rebate Program, the EPA anticipates awarding up to $965 million in rebate funding with the potential to modify this figure based on the application pool and other factors.

To allow for more transformative projects, the EPA has increased the maximum number of buses funded per application from 25 to 50 school buses. Eligible applicants can apply to receive funding for the purchase of zero-emission (ZE) and/or clean school buses (propane or compressed natural gas), and the purchase and installation of ZE charging infrastructure for applicants requesting ZE buses; selected applicants may also use their awarded rebate funds for workforce training, consulting costs for bus deployments, and bus warranty costs. The EPA will also provide additional funding per bus for ADA-compliant buses and for applicants not located in one of the lower 48 contiguous states to cover shipping costs.

2024 Clean School Bus Rebate Program applicants must submit all application materials by January 9th, 2025, at 4:00PM ET through the Applicant Dashboard here: https://app.epa.gov/csb/welcome

The U.S. Department of Energy is studying so-called "soft costs" of deploying electric vehicle charging infrastructure that sometimes are overlooked, and notes that the outlay for such items — such as permitting, inspections, administration and utility interconnections — can be higher than those for buildout costs, such as charging station construction, equipment and software.

DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory is leading the initiative in partnership with peer national laboratories to add clarity about soft costs that governments and private-sector companies may incur as they consider building out EV infrastructure.
