Augusta Transit is making a major move toward cleaner, quieter public transportation with the arrival of five battery-electric buses expected later this year. The city was awarded more than $6 million in federal grant funding in 2022 to purchase the buses—marking a first for public transit in the Central Savannah River Area. While the chargers are already in place, the buses themselves are expected to hit Augusta streets in late fall.
