🎓 The DL Handy Foundation, Inc. proudly announces our 2026 Scholarship Recipients! 💚

We are honored to invest in the future of these outstanding young scholars as they begin their collegiate journeys at Howard University, Clark Atlanta University, and Florida A&M University (FAMU).

Congratulations to Angelica Brown, Zoe Hill, Laila Bolton, and Adonis McCormick! We can’t wait to see all you accomplish.

Yesterday, The D.L Handy Foundation, Inc. and GFSPA 7th District proudly hosted the 3rd Annual Rally of Hearses “Rally Up, Guns Down” Parade in my hometown of Athens, Georgia.

Despite the heat, our community came together with one message: STOP the violence. While we may not stop every act of violence, we can continue to stand together, raise awareness, and encourage peace within our communities.

A sincere thank you to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department Athens-Clarke County Sheriff's Office, every motorcycle, Slingshot, car and bike club, funeral home, vendor, community partner, and everyone who came out to support. Your presence made this event a success.

So grateful for Georgia Minority Gun Control Group of Atlanta for coming down and supporting this event and speaking about gun violence.

We were also honored to announce our 2026 Scholarship Recipients! This year, The Ashantye Williams Scholarship and The DL Handy Foundation, Inc. Scholarship will award a total of $4,000 to four deserving students. $1,500 to each Ashantye Williams Scholarship Recipient and $500 to each DL Handy Foundation Scholarship recipient. We received more than 48 applications, and our recipients represent Hempstead, NY, Athens, GA, Colbert, GA, and Lithonia, GA. Investing in our youth is one of the greatest ways we can build stronger communities.

Special thanks to Damon D Blue Allen (Kashief Daniel) for keeping the music going and Tony Bradford for being an incredible host.

Thank you to every person that volunteered, came out and supported, shared posts of whatever you did!

We are truly grateful for Tamika Drake and her team at Virginia Walker Park and Athens-Clarke County, GA Unified Government

Serving others is my purpose, and I’m grateful for everyone who continues to support this vision. We’ll be back next year—bigger and better!

Tomorrow is the DAY! Everyone is invited!! Bring your lawn chairs, umbrellas or whatever you may need to enjoy this community event!

Be sure to arrive at the park by 3:00 PM! Please park in the lower lots if you can!!

Those participating in the parade, line up will begin at 2:15 PM at Clarke Central High School Gym Parking lot (off Baxter Street)

Happy 4th( Juneteenth) some of us might say! Although we fight daily to ensure our freedom, we will not give up or forget how far we have come.
