Thirty-five years ago, Troy Anthony Davis was sentenced to death for the 1989 murder of Savannah police officer Mark MacPhail — on no physical evidence, contradictory eyewitness testimony, and evidence of police coercion. Seven of the nine witnesses against him later recanted. On September 21, 2011, Georgia executed him anyway. He maintained his innocence to the end.
