March 18th thru the 22nd is National LGBTQ+ Health Awareness Week. The National Coalition for LGBTQ Health created the health awareness week in 2000 to raise awareness about timely and relevant issues impacting LGBTQ+ health care. The same year the Coalition was founded. It represents LGBT individuals, health care/service providers, researchers, and advocates. The theme for the week is "Vital Vibrant Voices."

My name is Reid Pinckard, and I am a student at the University of Arkansas as well as the founder of the Q***r South Zine. This project is striving to amplify LGBTQ+ Southern Voices by providing a space for Southern q***r creatives.

I am reaching out to see if you, your students, your connections or anyone else you may know would be interested in providing a submission for our inaugural issue. Submissions are open to any and everyone that feels that they have something to share about the q***r Southern experience.

The question/topic for our first issue is “What does the q***r South mean to you?”

Our team understands that this is broad, but we want to see how everyone has been shaped by their community.

Below are the different areas that we are looking for submissions in!

Fiction Writing!
This includes short stories, prose, flash fiction, and anything else that you think fits under this category. There are no stylistic requirements.

Poetry!
You can submit up to 5 poems. There are no stylistic requirements.

Nonfiction Writing!
This includes essays, interviews, recipes, lifestyle articles, and anything else that you can think that fits under this category. There are no stylistic requirements.

Visual Art Pieces!
This includes collages, photos, and anything else that would be considered visual art. Submissions in this category will also be required to submit a short explanation as to how their piece fits within the broader topic.

Anyone can submit their work(s) at the link here! Submission will be open from now to August 31, 2024.

Reposted from The mother of Righteous Torrence “TK” Hill, a 35-year-old Black trans man who was reportedly shot and killed in East Point, Georgia on February 28, has spoken out about the circumstances of her son’s death.

On Thursday, GLAAD published an interview with Verna Hill Wilcox, Hill’s mother, who identified her son’s killer as his cousin, 22-year-old Jaylen Hill.
