Big win for STR's in Atlanta. We defeated Howard Shook's proposed ban on STR's in District 7. Lots of hard work went into this, but also some good luck. Big thanks to all our members who showed up and made public comment. Also many thanks for Nia Brown, Nadia, Toby, and Nick Juliano for their hard work. It was a team effort all the way to the finish line. PS. The snacks were a lifesaver!

Both AMSTRA and Airbnb will be discussing Howard Shook's proposed ban on STR's in District 7 which will be up for vote before the Atlanta City Council next Monday, November 17th at 1 pm at Atlanta City Hall.

District 7 (Buckhead) is facing a proposed ban on all short-term rentals (Ordinance 25-O-1434). Although local boards and NPUs have rejected the claims behind it, the ordinance is headed to a Full City Council vote on Monday, November 17 at 1:00 PM (Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Ave SW). If it passe...

Good news to report! The ZRB voted unanimously to disapprove Howard Shook’s proposed ban on STR’s in District 7. The STR community showed up and prevailed!

With the disapproval of NPU-B and NPU-F and the slap down by the ZRB, the odds of beating this ban are moving up!

🚨 Atlanta STR Owners – Your Rights Are Under Attack! 🚨
On August 18, the Atlanta City Council voted to ban short-term rentals (STRs) in the Home Park neighborhood (SPI-8 district).
👉 The City’s Law Department says only STRs with existing City-issued licenses have “grandfather rights and may continue operating.
👉 AMSTRA strongly disagrees. We believe all current STR owners are entitled to grandfather rights and should be allowed to keep operating.
👉 To defend those rights, AMSTRA has retained legal counsel and is prepared to fight this in court.
⚠️ The Home Park ban is only the beginning. More legislation is coming that could put ALL Atlanta STRs at risk.

🚨 Critical Atlanta STR Legislative Alert 🚨

📅 Tuesday, Aug 12 @ 1:30 PM
📍 Atlanta City Hall — 55 Trinity Ave SW, 2nd Floor, Larry Di**le Room

The City Council CDHS Committee may vote today on severe new caps for STRs in multifamily properties:
🏢 Only 1 STR allowed in buildings with 3–9 units
🏢 10% cap in buildings with 10 or more units

This could be a make-or-break moment for Atlanta’s STR community. These limits could devastate property owners, operators, and guests who rely on STR income.

✊ Show up & speak out! Your voice matters. Let the committee know that STRs are a vital part of Atlanta’s housing and tourism economy.

Important Legislative Alert for City of Atlanta Short Term Rental Owners and Hosts:

PLEASE ATTEND TOMORROW’S MEETING OF ATLANTA'S COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT/HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE AND MAKE PUBLIC COMMENT.

Meeting Information:
Community Development/Human Service Committee
Tuesday, March 25th at 1:30pm
Larry Di**le Committee Room - Second Floor
55 Trinity Avenue
Atlanta, GA 30305

We have learned that the CDHS Committee will discuss but not vote on overly restrictive STR legislation proposed by Byron Amos that would require a 1000' buffer between STR's, does not include grandfather protections for current STRs, and limits STR’s in multifamily building to 10%.
Public comment is at the beginning of the meeting. Each speaker has three minutes.

Key points:
• The legislation does not recognize our grandfather rights recognized by Georgia law. By law, every short-term rental currently in operation should be allowed by ordinance to continue operating, notwithstanding restrictions in the revised ordinance.
• A 1,000 foot buffer is unnecessary, overly restrictive and unworkable for enforcement.
• The 10% restriction on STR’s in multifamily buildings of three or more is also overly restrictive. Plus, a 10% restriction would mean that buildings with less than 10 units would not be allowed any units.

YOUR VOICE COUNTS. SPREAD THE WORD!

Read full details in our latest blog post.
