Another heartbreaking reminder that domestic violence can escalate into tragedy. A former Cal Fire captain has been sentenced to life for taking the lives of his fiancée and child. Two innocent lives stolen, and so many others forever changed.

Domestic violence is not a private matter—it is a serious and deadly issue that affects families and entire communities. We must continue to speak up, support survivors, recognize warning signs, and hold abusers accountable.

Not one more victim. Not one more child. Not one more family destroyed.

If you or someone you know needs help, please reach out. Silence protects abuse—support can save lives.

Another heartbreaking reminder that domestic violence can escalate to deadly violence.

Reports say former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax allegedly shot and killed his wife before taking his own life during an ongoing domestic dispute. Two children were reportedly in the home when it happened. (The Washington Post)

Domestic violence is about power, control, fear, and abuse—and it can happen in any home, regardless of status, money, or title.

We must continue speaking up, believing survivors, and helping victims create safe exit plans before tragedy strikes.

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, please reach out for help. You are not alone.

The incident stemmed from an “ongoing domestic dispute surrounding what seems to be a complicated or messy divorce,” Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said.

Another life taken too soon. Domestic violence doesn’t discriminate-status, success, or position cannot shield it. Not one more! 💔

𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, 𝐅𝐋 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔--The vice mayor of a South Florida city was found dead in her home and police said they are investigating it as a "domestic violence incident."

Police were called to the home of Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen shortly after 10 a.m. to check on her well-being, Police Chief Brad Mock told reporters at a briefing. They found her dead inside the residence, he said.

Her husband, 40-year-old Stephen Bowen, was taken into custody, police said.

Metayer Bowen was the first Black and Haitian American female commissioner in the city when she was first elected in 2020, according to her biography on the city's website. She was re-elected in 2024 and appointed to serve as vice mayor by her fellow commissioners.

An environmental scientist, before being elected to the city commission, Metayer Bowen served as a member of the Broward County Soil and Water Conservation District, where she helped respond to Hurricanes Irma, Michael and Dorian, according to her bio.

"We are heartbroken to share that Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer has died," the city of Coral Springs posted on social media. "She was more than a public servant, she was a light in our community. Her leadership was grounded in compassion, strength, and an unwavering commitment to others. Her impact on Coral Springs is immeasurable, and her loss leaves a void in our hearts."

Speaking to reporters at a briefing, Coral Springs City Commissioner Joshua Simmons called the vice mayor a colleague and "battle buddy."

He added, "She had such a good heart. She truly cared about people."

Coral Springs City Manager Catherine Givens said, "To say today is a very dark day for us in Coral Springs is an understatement. There are no words that can truly capture the depth of this loss."

Her brother, Donovan Joshua Leigh Metayer, was 26 years old when he took his own life just last year on December 15, 2025. He was a survivor of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland in 2018.
