🥶 November Is Here And So Are New Needs 🥶

As we enter a new month, we’re reminded how quickly bills can pile up, especially when a missed paycheck or unexpected expense hits hard. This week, we have four urgent needs we’re hoping to meet together:

💡 Clarissa

A dedicated public school employee, Clarissa has fallen behind on her Georgia Power bill. She’s tried to catch up but just hasn’t been able to. Let’s help keep her lights on and home warm this week. $348.58 is needed to cover the past due balance. Or $565.84 to cover her bill in full!

🔥 Everett

After missing a few days of work, Everett’s bills began to snowball. He’s working to get back on track but needs help with his Gas South bill to make sure his family has heat as temperatures continue to drop. Everett needs $119.21 for his past due, or $204.31 to cover his bill in full

⚡ Victoria

Victoria isn’t behind yet, but with no paycheck coming until mid-November, she’s afraid of falling behind. Her electric bill of $258.85 is due soon, let’s get it covered before it becomes another disconnect notice.

🏠 Help the Helper

Thanks to our amazing community, we’ve already covered her past-due gas bill! But she’s still one month behind on rent. Her landlord has been understanding, but she needs to submit $850 toward her $1,700 rent to avoid eviction.

She understands we're extremely limited and even insisted that I should not ask, but we must try to help if we can!

It’s On The House, a day dedicated to compassion, connection, and care.🏠✨

On this special occasion, Morehouse College will open the HOUSE to stand beside neighbors in the Atlanta University Center who are experiencing hunger and homelessness. Through this heartfelt outreach, they are offering vital resources, warm meals, and a reminder that no one faces hardship alone.

Let’s unite in kindness, uplift one another, and turn empathy into action.

💔 When a helper is in trouble, sometimes other helpers have to come to the rescue. 💔

I met this young lady with tears in my eyes the day I didn’t have enough to check a family into a hotel. I stood there feeling helpless, until this single mother, who was already struggling to keep up with her own bills, reached into her pocket and handed me the last $40 we needed.

That act of kindness changed everything. Since that day, she’s been a constant source of encouragement, not just to me, but to every client who walks through the doors of the hotel where she works. Her heart for others has never wavered, even when her own circumstances have.

But now this helper needs help.

Her rent will be two months behind on November 1st, and her gas is at risk of being disconnected.

Through tears, she told me, “Sherri, I just don’t want the babies to be cold.”

It took me days of pleading before she finally shared a copy of her bill, not out of pride, but out of selflessness.

She said, “I’ll come up with the rest somehow. It’s just hard right now. But please don’t put me ahead of anyone else, there are people who have it worse.”

The truth is, I’m not putting her ahead of anyone else, because she’s already been part of Team Blessing Bags of Warmth for nearly a year. She’s been one of us all along.

So I’m asking, can you help me help this helper?

We know raising the full $1,700 for rent might not be possible right now, but we’re praying to at least cover her $375.14 past-due gas bill so her family can stay warm.

💔 50 Hours. 47 Minutes. 1,190 Messages. 💔
All in just 10 days.

If you’ve ever wondered what this work looks like behind the scenes… this is it.

Over five hours of phone calls every single day, calls from mothers with nowhere to sleep, families trying to keep the lights on, seniors running out of food, and community partners doing their best to help us help them.

📞 These aren’t just numbers.

They’re lives.
Every call is a story.
Every message is a cry for help, a moment of hope, or a small victory.

Some of those calls were from:

A mom stranded on the side of the road, her rental car broken down again, just trying to get to work.

A family with a baby born at 34 weeks, needing somewhere safe to stay.

Parents choosing between paying for gas or paying for food.

And others who just needed someone to listen, to remind them they weren’t forgotten.

This is what 50 hours looks like when you’re standing in the gap for people who have nowhere else to turn.

And truthfully? We’re tired. Not from lack of love, but from giving everything we have, every single day.

Your donations are what make it possible to keep answering those calls instead of letting them go to voicemail.

🦃 Blessing Bags of Warmth $40 Thanksgiving Challenge Update! 🛒💛

So yes, I did the Aldi $40 Thanksgiving Challenge yesterday!

I went to the Medlock Park (Lawrenceville Hwy), LaVista Rd, and Memorial Dr locations.

Unfortunately, none of them had turkeys, stuffing, or cranberries in stock yet.

BUT, I was able to grab most of the items on the list for just $24.99! 🙌🏽

And even better, I purchased three gift cards yesterday and woke up to donations this morning (thank you!! 💖), which means I’ll be able to grab more cards today!

I’m heading back out to check another Aldi for those missing holiday items so we can get a full, updated total.

🧡 Anyone want to help Blessing Bags of Warmth bless a few families this Thanksgiving?

Last year, we were able to surprise several families with ALDI gift cards, letting them shop for their own Thanksgiving meals, the way it should be. 🍂

This year, the need is even greater with the ongoing shutdown and food benefit uncertainty. Our goal? Double last year’s impact, 20 families getting to say, “I’ve got it covered.”

❤️ Anyone want to join Blessing Bags of Warmth again this year in buying a few ALDI USA gift cards???

Last year, we were able to purchase 10 Aldi gift cards and bless families who got to shop for their own Thanksgiving meal, the way it should be. 🍂

This year, with the government shutdown and the looming possibility of no EBT/ Food Stamps, the need is even greater. Our goal is to purchase 20 gift cards so families can experience the dignity of choosing their own ingredients and traditions.
