Tomorrow at 1pm EST. Join to hear about efforts to give people with a record a clean slate. Get the virtual login info by registering at www.cleanslateinitiative.org/events

NO ONE should be defined for the rest of their lives by their record! On tomorrow, the 11th, please join the Clean Slate Initiative at 1pm EST for a free webinar to discuss recent and ongoing research about the impacts of Clean Slate, including implementation fidelity, notification and awareness, its impact on employment, the role of automation technology in delivering relief at scale and how researchers and advocates can work together to strengthen Clean Slate policies nationwide.

The Clean Slate Initiative is working across the country, and in Congress, to pass and implement laws that automatically seal criminal records for people who have completed their sentence and remained crime-free, and to expand who is eligible for sealing. Over the last few years, Clean Slate policies have moved from theory to reality in states across the country. As automated record sealing becomes more common, the research agenda surrounding Clean Slate is evolving alongside it.

UPDATE: due to possible inclement weather, tomorrow's Jan. 31st event (1 of 4) has been cancelled. If a new date is set by the organizers, we will share.

ABOUT THE EVENTS:

To ensure that the voices of Atlanta residents are heard during the planning process regarding the intentions of the the Chattahoochee Brick Company, that has been purchased by the city of Atlanta, Chrysalis Lab invites you to join them for their upcoming Community Conversations: Chattahoochee Brick Company and Atlanta Riverlands to allow you to meet with the consultant team, learn about the project, get updates on the archaeological process and share your insights into this site and Atlanta's trail network along the Chattahoochee River. Although the Jan. 31st event has been cancelled, all events will be at 10:30am at the C.T. Martin Natatorium and Recreation Center located at 3201 Martin Luther King Junior Drive SW. The events are FREE and breakfast will be served.

The Chattahoochee Brick Company supplied bricks for the construction of industrial buildings and city of Atlanta infrastructure, such as roads and sewers starting in 1885. The factory used free labor provided by incarcerated people, primarily African American men who were often arrested under petty or dubious charges and forced to work under brutal, sometimes fatal, conditions to produce a profit for the company’s owners. The Chattahoochee Brick Company ceased operations in 1972 and General Shale Brick, its successor, demolished all of the buildings in 2011.

The City of Atlanta purchased the site of the former factory in August of 2022 with the intent to create a public greenspace and memorial to those who labored and died here. Over the next year, the City of Atlanta will be developing a vision for a park and memorial at the historic site of the former Chattahoochee Brick Company, as well as planning the alignment for the future Atlanta RiverLands trail along the Chattahoochee River. The planning for the use and design of the site will be a public process with all welcome to participate.

Register for future Community Conversations to meet with the consultant team, learn about the project, get updates on the archaeological process and share your insights into this site and Atlanta's trail network along the Chattahoochee River at https://chattbrickriverlands.atlantaga.gov/cbc/cbc-events-updates

We can see why people may think this is ok but guess what? That old saying when you did one grave, dig one for yourself too is what not opposing this bill may mean for you or someone you love because ANYONE can end up homeless and the same law you supported just very well may be the one that criminalizes you or your loved one so if any of the public safety committee members below represent you, and even if they don't, contact them and tell them to oppose HB295 today!
